1. (A) Describe the following sets by Roster Method:

(i) {x: 25x2 – 30x + 9 = 0, x  Q} (ii) {x: x2 – 2x + 4 = 0, x  N}
(B) Describe the following sets by Property Method:
(i) {5, 10, 15, 20} (ii) {1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19}

2. (A) Which of the following sets is a null set?

(i) A = {x: x is an even prime number} (ii) B = {x: 30x – 59 = 0, x  N}
(iii) C = {x: x3 – 1 = 0, x  R}
(B) Are the following statements true?
(i) If A = {x: x2 – 1 = 0, x  N} and B = {–1, 1} then A  B
(ii) If A = {x: x – 3 > 0, x  0} and B =  then A = B
(iii) If A = {x: x2 – 4x + 3 = 0} and B = {1, 3} then A = B

3. State whether each of the following sets is finite or infinite:

(i) the set of lines which are parallel to the x–axis (ii) the set of letters in English alphabet
(iii) the set of numbers which are multiple of 5 (iv) the set of circles through origin

4. Write the power set of the set {1, 3, 5, 8} and verify that this set contains 24 i.e., 16 elements.

5. Find A  B, A  B, A – B, B – A and A  B if A = {1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9} and B = {2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11}.

6. Let U = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9}, A = {1, 2, 3, 4}, B = {2, 4, 6, 8}, C = {3, 4, 5, 6}. Find:
(i) A (ii) (A  B)
(iii) (A  C) (iv) (B – C)

7. If U = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9}, A = {2, 4, 6, 8}, B = {2, 3, 5, 7} verify that

(i) (A  B) = A  B (ii) (A  B) = A  B

8. If n(U) = 60, n(A) = 35, n(B) = 24, n(A  B) = 10, find n(A  B). [Ans: 9]
