3. The driver of a car travelling at 52km/h applies the brakes and decelerates uniformly. The car stops
in 5s. Another driver going at 34km/hr applies his brakes slower & stops after 10s. On the same graph,
plot the speed versus time graph for the two cars. Which of the two cars travelled further after the
brakes were applied?
4. A man fires a gun and hears its echo after 5s. The man moves 320m in towards the hill & fires his gun
again.
This time he hears the echo after 3s. Calculate the speed of sound.
5. A body starts with initial velocity 4m/s & accelerates at 1.5 m/s2 for 6s. It travels with this speed for
another 8s and then comes to rest with uniform retardation in another 10s. Draw a velocity time
graph to show the motion of the body from your graph. Find out -
(i) Distance travelled during acceleration, (ii) Average velocity of the body,
(iii) Value of retardation.
6. Draw a diagram to show the motion of a body whose speed remains constant but velocity changes
continuously.
7. A body falls freely from certain height. Show graphically the relation between the distance fallen &
the square of the time. How will you determine the value of 'g' from the graph?
8. Find (i) Acceleration of the body, (ii) Deceleration (iii) Distance covered by the body,
(iv) Modify the above graph if it is given that the body moves with constant speed 15m/s between 3-
4s then comes to rest at B.

9. A bullet initially moving with a velocity of 20m/s strikes a target and Comes to rest after
penetrating a distance of 10cms in the target. Calculate the retardation caused by the target.
10. The speedometer reading of a truck is given below
T 0 5 10 15 20
S 0 5 10 15 15
(i) Draw the velocity time graph of the truck. (ii) Describe the motion of the truck.
(iii)Calculate the distance covered by the truck in first 10s.
(iv)What is the total distance travelled by the truck?
11. A stone is dropped freely in a river from a bridge. It takes 5s to touch the water surface in the
river. Calculate the height of the bridge from the river (g=9.8m/s2).
12. A ball is dropped from the top of a tower 40m high. What is its velocity when it has covered 20m?
What is its velocity when it hits the ground?
13. A ball is dropped from the jumping board of a swimming pool which is at a height of 20 m. A second
ball is thrown from the same board after 1 s with initial velocity u. Both the balls hit the water
together. What was the initial velocity with which the second ball is thrown? Do they hit the; water
with same velocity? Explain.
14. A rocket is launched to travel vertically upwards with a constant velocity 20m/s. After travelling
