Farmers are the backbone of our society

Civilization started with agriculture, and while civilization has changed dramatically, agriculture still
remains very important. Its importance is more evident in some nations, but the fact is that every
country in the world depends on agriculture for one thing or another. Here are reasons why farming
matters:

 It’s the main source of raw materials- Many raw materials come from agriculture, be it cotton,
sugar, wood, or palm oil. In ways that many people are not even aware of, such as the
manufacture of pharmaceuticals, diesel fuel, rubber, and more, these materials are important to
major industries. In fact, raw materials are so important in manufacturing that a country's
economic health depends heavily on how many raw materials it possesses.
 It’s a source of our food supply- The most significant aspect of agriculture, perhaps, is that it is
the source of the world's food supply. The ingredients in your meals come from everywhere,
regardless of when or what you eat. All roads lead to farming. It's because their farming
industries are struggling in countries grappling with food shortages and extreme malnutrition.
Fewer individuals go hungry as agriculture thrives.
 It can help heal the environment- The power to damage or heal is granted to agriculture. It helps
the planet when farmers prioritize biodiversity on their land. The effect of more biodiversity is
cleaner soil, less erosion, better conservation of water, and healthier pollinators. For the world
as a whole, this is all positive news, rendering agriculture an integral part of the cycle of life.
 The state of agriculture reflects our future- The environment and agriculture struggle the most
immediately and with the most visible effects when it comes to pollution and climate change.
The effects of climate change on agriculture would decimate the economy of a nation and
ultimately wipe out the food supply if successful changes are not made. Look at agriculture to
get a better understanding of where humans would end up.
