ABSTRACT

Steam can be used for electricity generation. This system demonstrates the
use of this concept designed a steam powered electricity generator. This
generator consists of a narrow funnel based container used to store water.
The heated container/boiler boils the water and push out steam with pressure.
Now we use a motor generator with designed propeller blade and this blade
moves due to pressurized steam force and it runs the generator motor. So
electric current is generated in motor and available at output.

INTRODUCTION

Steam can be used for electricity generation using very low power using some heat from a candle

using this mechanism. Our system demonstrates the use of this concept using a smartly designed

mechanical generator. Our generator consists of a narrow funnel based container that is used to

store water. This container is treated as a boiler. The heated boiler boils the water and pusher out

steam with this pressure. Now we use a motor generator with a custom designed propeller blade.

This blade moves due to the pressurized steam force and in turn runs the generator motor. Thus

an electric current is generated in this motor and is available at output.

PROPOSED SETUP:
COMPONENT USED:

(a)Generator motor (e)candles

(b)Fan (f) 3v led bulb

(c)Container

(d)Nozzle

(e)Supporting fram

(f)Joints & screws

dc motorr fan nozzle

Container supporting frame candles

ASSEMBLY:
 The total setup is is placed together then take supporting frame to support all the

components

 Then take screws, joints, and other miscellaneous accessories i.e wooden sticks for

holding the container, then take the glue gun for gluing the wooden piece to the

supporting frame.

 And also glue the wooden sticks which is used to hold the container

 Then arrange and assemble the fan to the dc motor through propeller shaft the entire

setup except container the dc motor with fan has been placed on another wooden block

up to a suitable height.

 i.e The steam which is coming out from the nozzle will hit the fan and then the fan rotates

and generates electricity

 The container is filled with 100ml of water and then placed on the wooden sticks. The

heat is generated by placing at least 5candles of medium size.

 And last for increasing the velocity of steam which is coming out from the container is

increased by assembling nozzle at the small opnener.

WORKING:

 The container which is supported on the frame is a main source for generating

steam.

 The container is filled with water up to 100ml and it is closed a small hole is

located at its face center to releasing the steam.

 The container is heated with candles which are located under the container for

generating heat.

 While the heat is generated to the container which contains a 100ml of water

the water is converted into steam, the steam is coming out from small opening

at is face.

 To increase the velocity of steam the nozzle is placed at its openings i.e to

increase the velocity of the steam.

 The steam which is coming out from a container with a high velocity hits the

propeller fan which is connected to 7v dc motor.

 The propeller fan rotates with the help of hitting steam through a container and

the dc motor rotates some revolutions and it generates some current of 3v to

5.6 v.

 This fan moves due to the pressurized steam force and in turn runs the generator

motor. Thus an electric current is generated in this motor and is available at output.

 The out put current is utilized by attaching led bulb. Although the bulb is

connected the bulb does not glow fully it glow like a dim bulb.

 To over come this a circuit is attached to the bulb for boosting the voltage and

it glows brightly
Circuit diagram of led bulb with 2n2222or 3904 transistor for boosting the voltage:

 this circuit is attached to the led bulb for boosting the voltage. And it all depends on

the velocity of the steam generated and the current generated by the motor e.tc
CALUCLATIONS :

1. How much steam is generated for 100ml of water ?

 If 1ml of water is heated it generates 0.001kg (1gram) (close enough for this) and

also noted as 1cubic cm

 At 1bar pressure, specific volume of saturated steam is 0.880277 cubic

centimeters/kg. a cubic centimeter is 10^6 cm

 So specific volume of saturated steam at 1 bar is 880277cubic cm/kg (or) 880.177

cc/gm

So in our project we use 100ml of water for generating the steam .

100ml of water(H20) = how much steam to be produces

1ml of water = 0.001kg of steam produced

100x0.001kg

=0.1 kg of steam was produced

Ex: 99ml of water = 99x0.001

= 0.99 kg of steam was produced

In this project we use 7v dc motor which can produce 8000r.p.m. the motor is coreless brush

which produces 3v to 7v and it is a 1 pole 60hz motor which contains 8000r.p.m .

Calculating the torque of the motor:

Weight of the motor = 300 gm

I pound =453.592 gram

Conversion of 300 grams to pound i.e =0.661387lb

So a 1 pole motor of 60hz turns a 8000r.p.m and generates continous 0.661387lb –in of

torque for every 1hp (746 british)

Torque = hpx63025/8000 (63025 times)

= hpx(63025/8000)

Torque (lb-in) = hp*7

Torque( t) = 7horse power

Calculations are done.

FUTURE SCOPE:

 It is a prototype model in future it is used in some power plants

 Which can generate high voltages in power plants. which are manufacture at bigger

size container. For generating high kpa of steam
