Chanakya says:
[प्रिय वाक्य kind and gentle words; प्रदानेन by gifting away; सर्वे जन्तवः all
people; तुष्यन्ति are satisfied. तस्मात्तदे व = तस्मात ् (literally - from that; but
here it conveys the meaning 'therefore”) + तत ् (that) + एव (only; alone);
वक्तव्यं should be spoken. वचने in speech; का दरिद्रता why the scarcity (of
kind words)? Or why show poverty of words when speaking kind words?]
Thus, tongue becomes the creator of enemies and friends. If we are
uttering sweet then we can get sweet. If we tell hard then the result may be
dangerous. So, our voice should be purified and decorated with good words,
which shall be for communal satisfaction. In this regard, the usefulness of
Sanskrit is immense. It is the language of “LORD”. Dandi, the author of
Kavyadarsh says “mebmke=Àleb efn owJeerJeekedÀ DevJeeK eelee
cenef<e&efYe:“ It means, it is the language of Gods and Goddesses.
However, Sanskrit is also the language of common man. During the period
of Bhoja Dynasty, Sanskrit was the language of Common man. Once, the King
Bhojaraja went out to visit his kingdom to know the situation of his ruled
country. In his way he met a man carrying some heavy load on his head.
Suddenly Bhojaraja asked a question to him in Sanskrit i.e “Yeejes ve
yeeOeefle efkeÀced?” In this sentence “JeeOeefle” is a grammatical
mistaken word. But immediately hearing after this sentence from Bhojaraja
that common man replied “Yeejes ve yeeOeles jepeved ³eLee yeeOeefle
yeeOeles”. It means the mistake word “yeeOeefle”, used by the King gave
more pain to the common man rather than his load. Here, we can understand
the standard of the common man in speaking Sanskrit during Bhoja’s period.
