OHM’S LAW.

There is a linear relationship between the voltage drop across a circuit element and the current
flowing through it. Therefore the resistance R is viewed as a constant independent of the voltage and
the current. In equation form, Ohm’s law is:
V = IR.
By using OHM’S Law, we can calculate the any missing quantity by using other two quantities.
Current Calculation:
When resistance R of the resister to which the current has to be passed through and voltage V is
given we can calculate the current. I
I= V/R Ampere
Voltage Calculation:
When resistance R of the resister to which the current I has to be passed through. We can calculate
the current. I
V= IR volt
Resistance Calculation:
When voltage V and Current I has been known, the resistance of resister can be calculated as
R= V/I Ohm
Example A light bulb with a resistance of 2 ohms is connected to a 1.5 volt battery as
shown. Calculate the current that will flow.
Solution:
(1) We are asked for the current, I.
(2) We know V and R.
(3) Use the formula V = I R.
(4) Plug in numbers.
I = 1.5 V 2 = 0.75 A
Answer: 0.75 amps will flow in the circuit.
Energy:
The ability to do a work is known as energy. The unit of work is joule.
Power:
The work done in one second in one second by one volt of potential difference in moving one
columb of charge. The unit of power is one watt. W
The formula of power is P= VI.
The power observed or consumed by a resister is given as
P= VI by ohm’s law V= IR
By putting valve P= (IR) R
Or P= V ( V/R)
Horse Power:
The horse power unit is expressed in term of watt is
746 W = 1 hp
KWH:
Kilo Watt Hour is the unit used for term the consumption of power in kilo watts per hour. 1kwh.
