SECTION 1

1 Particular Mechanical Specification

1.1 General
This specification covers the particular requirements for mechanical installations at the Muwaileh Foul Pumping
Station, ESPS1 and rising main to Al Houma STP. The Civil construction of the sewage pumping station shall be
based on a peak flow rate of 2,300 l/s. The MEICA components of the pumping station will be installed in phases.
In the current phase, the MEICA requirements for pumping the current peak flow rate of 1,150 l/s shall be
installed. The pumped flows from the proposed sewage pumping station shall be discharged to an above ground
flow distribution chamber in the proposed STP in Al Houma.
This particular mechanical specification shall be read in conjunction with the following:
• Sharjah Municipality Specification and Design Guidelines
• Particular Electrical Specification
• Particular ICA specification and Control Philosophy
• Design Drawings
• General/Standard Specifications
These documents provide the outline design for the required installation works of the project. The Contractor
shall be responsible for providing the detailed design, construction and installation drawings.
In the event of any conflict between any of the specifications, the Particular Specification requirements shall
take precedence.

1.2 Scope of Works

1.2.1 Required System Performance
The proposed sewage pumping station shall be designed for ultimate peak flow of 2,300 l/s.
The works shall house a screening facility with 3 automatic raked bar screens housed in the screen chamber and
a pumping station with wet well/drywell configuration.
The pumping station shall be provided with two wet wells each for current and future phases. The pump room
(dry well) shall house six (6) variable speed dry well installed submersible type pumps to pump flows up to a
peak flow rate of 2,300 l/s. The pumps shall operate in 4 Duty + 2 Standby configuration.
Three (3) pumps shall be installed during current stage, to pump the peak flow rate of 1,150 l/s in 2 Duty + 1
standby arrangement. Another 2 Duty + 1 standby configuration shall be installed in future stage. Twin
DN1000mm rising mains are proposed; and for the current phase, the pumps shall operate through one
DN1000mm rising main to Al Houma STP.

1.2.2 Foul Sewage Pumping Station, ESPS1

The Contractor shall be responsible for the provision of all equipment and materials necessary to complete the
mechanical installation and to provide a fully working sewage pumping station meeting the required system
performance as mentioned in this specification and design drawings.
The scope of the Mechanical works at the sewage pumping station for the initial (current) stage shall include
but not limited to the supply, install, test and commissioning of the following;
• The main pumping system consists of 3 variable speed driven dry well installed submersible type pumps
in duty/assist/standby configuration capable of pumping sewage up to a flow rate of 1,150 l/s at 40m
head. The Contractor shall verify the head required for the pumps at duty flow rates based on the final
rising main layout and profiles.

PARTICULAR MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS 5

PARTICULAR MECHANICAL SPECIFICATION

• Two automatically raked bar screens with 25mm bar spacing, both operating as duty in normal
operating condition. One additional screen shall be installed in future stage. Each screen design flow
rate shall be 1,150 l/s so that in future, two screens shall be able to operate for the maximum flow of
2,300 l/s when one is isolated for maintenance. For current stage, in normal condition both screens shall
be operating and one screen shall be able to operate for 1,150 l/s when one is isolated for maintenance.
• Motorised penstocks for screen inlet/outlets, screen channels and wet well.
• All valves, flowmeter, instruments, pipe work and fittings as shown on the drawings.
• Pipe supports required for the piping system. The Contractor shall carry out pipe stress analysis for the
pumping station piping system.
• Compressed air type surge vessels shall be provided. 2 nos. of 40m³ surge vessel shall be provided for
DN1000mm line for the current phase, including the compressor package. The Contractor shall carry
out surge analysis based on the final equipments and shop drawings for pumping station and rising
main. Compressors shall be installed inside the building with all necessary controls.
• An electrically operated travelling (EOT) crane with Safe Working Load (SWL) of 8 Tons. The SWL of the
crane shall be confirmed based on the final selected pumps.
• Two stage odour control system of capacity 23,000 m³/h, with biological filter and activated carbon
filter for the screen chamber, screen building, wet well and air valve chamber.
• Sump pumps the pump room, including all instruments and pipework to the wet well.
• Potable water tank and skid mounted pump sets for building water supply requirements, including the
connection from nearest SEWA supply. Potable water system to shall be used as secondary source for
odour control system irrigation, incase TSE supply is unavailable. The tank and pump skid includes
pressure vessel, stainless steel pipework, level and pressure instruments, control panel, cables for the
continuous automatic operation.
• Service water tank (TSE) and skid mounted pump sets as primary source for odour control system
irrigation, wash water for screen, service hose bibs. The tank and pump skid include pressure vessel,
automatic backwash filters, stainless steel pipework, level and pressure instruments, control panel,
cables etc for the continuous automatic operation.
• 2 nos. of 1000 kVA diesel generator for the current stage and diesel fuel system including 2 nos. of 9,000
Liters diesel fuel tank and fuel supply pumps.
• Hand railing, flooring, walkways and access ladders as required.
• Access covers for the openings in the screen chamber, wet well and valve/flowmeter chambers.
• Air conditioning for the MCC room, administration and operator rooms.
