FINDINGS

The Notre Dame of Jaro Inc. conducted a survey among 209 respondents during the enrolment period of the Grade 7 to Grade 12. The main purpose of the survey
is to identify the different factors that might affect the learning of the students amidst of the pandemic and to know how the school is going to take an action into it. The
survey covers the questions on the means of transportation of the students from home to school, the number of members of the family who are still studying,
instructional support for their learning and different challenges they might encounter in doing the different ways of learning. .

Student’s means of transportation. Student’s means of transportation differs depending on the distance of their homes to the school. The data shows that
36.36% of them are commuting using the public vehicles. Meanwhile, 30.14% of them preferred walking since their homes are near the school. The remaining
percentage, 28.23% use their family- owned vehicle as a means of transportation, and 6.22% of them have their own school service.

Number of Household members who are still studying in AY 2020-2021. Despite of the crisis of the COVID- 19, the 209 respondents and their members of
the family decided to continue their studies for the AY 2020- 2021. The data illustrates that the Grade 7 (36.84%) got the highest percentage of enrolees. It is followed by
Grade 8 (28.71%), Grade 9 (26.32%), Grade 10 (20.57%), Grade 11 (13.40%) and the Grade 12 got only 11.01%. Other members of their family are still studying in
Kinder (9.57%), Grade 1 (1.91%), Grade 2 (5.26%), Grade 3 (10.53%), Grade 4 (8.62%), Grade 5 (11.96%), Grade 6 (3.35%) and others who enrolled in college or any
tech- vocational programs composed of 12.44%.

Members of the family who can give instructional support to the learner. Since Department of Education (DepEd) and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF)
mandated the NEW NORMAL of learning modalities (Blended Learning or Distance Learning) , the family members play an important role in providing instructional
support to the learners. The survey shows that their parents or guardians (63.63%) can highly provide them with the needed instructional support. It follows by their
elder siblings (24.88%), their grandparents (8.30%), extended members of the family (5.26%) , able to do independent learning (3.83%) and for the others (tutors,
house helpers, and ect.) and none got 0.48%.

Availability of devices that can use in learning. Technology plays a vital role in this new learning approach. The data shows that there are 59.33% of students
who use smartphones as their learning device. The others have the following devices that are available at home that can be used for learning, such as cable TV (50.72%),

laptops (42.58%), basic cell phone (38.76%), radio (29.19%), tablet (24.40%), non- cable TV (16.75%), desktop computer (13.88%), and for the learners who use other
devices is 1.44% and for those who do not have any of the following is 1.91%.

Access to the Internet for learning. The internet is in demand for the use of new learning approach. Since the Department of Education (DepEd) implemented
the no face- to- face classes, the schools may adapt the Online classes aside from modular to provide supplementary instructions to the learners. Based on the survey
there are 72.25% of the learners have the access to an internet and the remaining 15.79% do not have. The learners who have the access to internet used owned mobile
data (52.15%) and others use owned broadband internet (38.76%). The other learners have to visit computer shop (2.87%) and needs to go to other places outside of
their homes (1.91%) to access to the internet. Unfortunately, there are still learners who don’t have access to the internet (2.39%).

Distance Learning Modalities. The different distance learning modalities are proposed by the DepEd to continue the learning of the students despite of the
COVID- 19 pandemic. The parents or guardians of the learners choose what preferred modalities for their child. Data illustrates that most of them chose the modular
learning (70%), others prefer online learning (33.49%), combination of face- to- face (27.75%), radio (6.22%), television (5.74%) and others (3.83%).

Challenges that may affect child’s learning process through distance education. There are many challenges that might affect to the learning process of the
learners through distance education. Challenges may be financially, emotionally and physiologically. Parents concluded that the unstable mobile and internet connection
(57.42%) , lack of data allowance (37.32%), and lack of available gadgets (28.71%) are the challenges for distance learning of their child. The other challenges are
distractions (18.18%), difficulty in independent learning (10.53%), conflict with other activities (8.13%), existing health condition (5.74%), no or lack of available space
(4.31%) and other challenges is (3.35%).

RECOMMENDATIONS
In view of the findings of the survey, the recommendations are the following:
1. The school will adapt the Modular Distance Learning to cater all of the students.
2. The teachers will provide Self- Learning Modules that is in line with the MELC’s provided by the Department of Education (DepEd). It will be sent through designated
stations with a set schedule (day and time).
3. The school must orient the parents and guardians on how to assist the learners to accomplish the task.
4. The administrators and the faculty must be open for any inquiries and consultations about the modules and other matters.
