OPTICAL COMMUNICATION AND NETWORKS(ECE4005)

TASK-1
R. JENIFER PRICILLA
11BEC0159
Aim: construct (or) design ,simulate and analyse the BER performance of a 10
Gpbs optical communication system for the following specification’s like line
encoding for NRZ .external modulation (MZM) and fiber length from 40-100
km.

Digital apparatus required:

 User defined bit generator
 NRZ/RZ pulse generator
 Mach-Zehnder
 CW laser
 Optical fiber
 Photodetector
 Low pass Bessel filter
 BER analyser

Procedure:
Take the bit generator and then take NRZ/RZ pulse generator and connect both
of them. Set the values like rise time (0.15), fall time (0.25) and amplitude (5) of
the NRZ/RZ pulse generator. Take the CW laser and set its values to the required
power and wavelength and connect it with the Mach Zehnder modulator. And
also Connect pulse generator to Mach Zehnder modulator. Then Mach Zehnder
modulator is connected to the optical fibre and then to photodetector. The output
comes from the photodetector is filtered by low pass Bessel filter and analysed
by the BER analyser and we can get graphs and bit rate error.
NRZ block diagram:

BER analyser output graph and bit rate value:

PROCEDURE:
Open optisim software and then place the required
components and design the circuit and then give power value
as 10 mw and fiber length as 40-10 km save and simulate the
circuit the output will be seen in BER ANALYSER and then
keeping fiber length as 40 km and power vary from 10 mw-
20mw and get ouput in BER ANALYSER

OBSERVATION:
NRZ
Result:
The given circuit diagram has been simulated
