Handheld motor-operated power equipment (Power tools) is equipment that is actuated by an additional
power source (usually electric) other than the solely manual labors used with hand tools. Power
tools present hazards such as noise, vibration, fire, electrical, moving parts, and projectiles. To prevent
hazards associated with the use of power tools, the workers should observe the following general
precautions:
GRINDING MACHINES
o Check grinding wheels for cracks before use.
o Do not use cracked or damaged grinding wheels.
o The grinding wheel’s safe working speed (RPM) must be the same or greater than the
machine RPM.
o Regularly inspect tools to make sure they are in good shape and fit for use.
o Power tools shall have a periodic inspection every three months by a qualified, competent
person to ensure it is working properly.
o The inspected tools should be labeled with an Inspection tag having proper
color coding.
HANDHELD MOTOR-OPERATED POWER EQUIPMENT GUIDELINES
o Disconnect tools when not using them, before servicing and cleaning them, and when
changing accessories such as discs and wheels.
