On the
Conduct of Competency Assessment
As a Competency assessor, you must provide a supportive environment before starting with the assessment activity. You must
ensure that the environment is suitable for the assessment and the candidates are relaxed and not apprehensive. As soon as you
have admitted the candidates, say:
I would like to acknowledge the presence of Mr. Danilo Amante, one of the Trainer in
SPAAFI , and also Mr. Henry Supilanas, our Representative from TESDA Provincial Office.
I have your accomplished self-assessment guide. This is an indication that you know and Self-assessment
can perform all the units of competency enumerated in this qualification.

The competency assessor gives the overview of the qualification to be assessed.
The competency assessor orients/briefs the candidates. Explains the following: Relevant copy of
Context and purpose of assessment CS/Qualification
Qualification/units of competency to be assessed Copy of the National
Task to be performed and the evidence to be collected assessment package for full
Assessment procedures to be undertaken qualification
Needs of the candidates to be considered during assessment (National Certificate)
Allowable/reasonable adjustments in the assessment procedure
(The competency assessor can conduct orientation to at least ten (10) candidates.) Clustered units of
Competency
(Certificate of competency)
Say this explanations:
1. This assessment will focus on the core units of competency.
2. So you have 4 competencies. number 1. Raise organic chicken, 2. Produce
Organic vegetables, 3. Produce organic fertilizer and number 4. Produce
organic concoctions and extracts.
3. Evidences will be collected in every performance.
4. We have this assessment procedures to be undertaken in order to assess
your skills and knowledge on those competencies based on standards.
5. Is there anyone here who have any physical problem or has a special
need?
6. I will allow some reasonable adjustments in case someone here has a
special need.
1. Using the materials, tools, and equipment, you are required to perform
the task within 2 hours. I will be observing you while you are performing
the tasks.
2. After your demonstration, I will ask you some questions related to your
demonstration.
3. You may call me when there is a need for me to translate or explain items
for clarification.
4. After the questioning portion, I will give you feedback about your
performance. Ok?
5. Any questions or clarifications? Ok good.
6. Always be reminded to observe safety precautions. Safety first!
7. Our timer is now ready. You may start. Timer starts now.
…. But, you performed the task within the standard requirements of the
qualification. So….
Note: Present the rating sheets to the candidate to affix his signature on the
candidate’s signature portion. This is a proof that he accepts your assessment
decision.

In case if the candidate was not found competent, say:
Mr. Renato Hipolito, I am sorry, you were not able to perform within
the standard requirements of the qualification. You have to review or
practice the activities related to the competency requirements of the
qualification further.
You come back after a month for re-assessment or when you feel
confident enough that you have acquired the competence. Don’t
worry, you will be reassessed on the on the part of the activity that
you were found to be not yet competent.
Continuation note: Complete the rating sheet together with other documents and
submit these to the manager of the assessment center.
