Repairing the TV source HAIER LCD LB32B1120

(http://www.abcdatos.com/tutorial/reparando-fuente-tv-haier-lcd-lb32b1120.html)Repairing a
LCD TV source HAIER LB32B1120 is an article about the experience in repairing the power
supply of a 32 "LCD TV and the new regulations for this" power electronics "technology, as
the power source one of the most sensitive elements to failures in LCD equipment.

The peculiar thing that stands out in this model is that it uses electronic variants in the
design of the power supply, that is why from the observed elements, we will try to make a
synthesis of its defects and the new integrated circuits used.

Introduction

This type of technologically referred power supply is of the "AC-DC flyback converter" type, something like:
an AC to DC converter for return, which according to the image is the TV3206-ZC02-01A model, its
characteristics indicate it as a "Green Mode" font.

Global issue

Much of the air pollution we breathe is due to the fossil fuel used to produce electricity. The mortality rate due
to this type of pollution has increased in many countries in Latin America and Asia, but in the United States
and Europe they have been reduced, thanks to policies to curb it with technological measures to achieve the
efficiency of energy consumption.
The environmental regulations in the United States and the actions carried out by the European Commission
have generated significant progress in reducing pollution since 1990.

Efficiency
8/26/2018 Repairing the TV source HAIER LCD LB32B1120

The efficiency "Ɛ" is the result of the input energy "Ei" on the output energy "Eo".

Ɛ = Ei / Eo

It is defined or conceived as the minimum loss of energy for an electronic converter, preventing the
dissipated power from being lost in the form of heat, or in another condition, such as stand-by.

Green Mode

It is the result of the improvement of electronic equipment in the consumption of energy. Green Mode is the
regulation to optimize the quality of electronic equipment with an efficiency "Ɛ" by more than 95%. A protocol
that requires the converter to operate in multiple modes, given the actual power demand. The source of the
"flyback converter" type allows this solution, under the burst mode, modulating the frequency, the
discontinuous conduction and the almost resonant modes of commutation, to improve and adapt the transfer
of load in empty and at full load. Today's sources must operate almost without power losses between the AC
line and the converter output.

In today's sources, the use of linear regulators where transistors operate in the active linear conduction zone
is prohibitive, since they dissipate up to 40% of the energy in the form of heat.

The power supply flyback converter

The power supply "AC-DC flyback converter" in this LCD TV model, has the following characteristics for
integrated circuits.

• High voltage CMOS with excellent protection

• Very low starting current at 20μA
• Start in burst mode
• RI. Programmable switching frequency
• No audible noise
• UVLO. protection by low voltage
• OVP. Overvoltage protection
• OLP. Overload protection

The current power source is divided into three fundamental blocks.

Power factor corrector "PFC"

The PFC (Power Factor Correction) stage is responsible for eliminating or correcting the power factor of the
electrical distribution network so that the power supply of the LCD TV receiver works in optimal power
conditions, even with any input voltage and in the worst conditions of electric power, and can serve for the
proper functioning of the device. For this purpose, the electronic circuit uses a coil or "reactor transformer"
with which to obtain an elevating voltage between 390V to 400V to correct and deliver this optimized voltage
to the next stage of the circuit.

Standby reducer converter "Stand by"

This stage Stand by (STB) is designed to feed the block in the standby condition, usually delivering a voltage
of 5V through a reducer converter, necessary to obtain the orders to be executed in the equipment. A good
part of the electricity consumption in residences is produced in electronic devices in the Stand by condition.
In some TV sets the Stan-by works with a supply voltage of 3.3V.

When you want to save energy, avoid breakdowns, in addition to reducing environmental pollution and
pollution, as well as the cost, electronic devices must be disconnected from the network when they are not
going to be used. It is related by detailed studies about the year 2005 that almost 15% of the general
electrical over consumption of a city was due to this condition. This is why efficiency rules and regulations
have appeared for integrated circuits, called "Green Mode" for a greater simplification of the design and
greater efficiency, among many other factors, also optimizing the initial starting current at only 20uA which
substitutes the Current models of integrated circuits for switched sources.

HAIER LCD TV with the typical voltages of
LB32B1120
12V and 24V. In general, the output rectifier diodes for 24V are silicon-type power, with a potential difference
(VD) of 0.7V for this type of semiconductor.

Barrier rectifier diode

The diodes of the 12V voltage output stage can be of the barrier type or Schottky a semiconductor device
that provides very fast switching between direct and reverse conduction states, and very low threshold
voltage (elbow voltage), which is the minimum potential difference necessary for the diode to act as a
conductor.

Unlike conventional silicon rectifier diodes whose threshold voltage (VD) from the diode leads is 0.7 V, the
Schottky diodes have a threshold voltage of 0.2 to 0.4V, which makes it ideal for rectifying very low voltages,
under 5V at very high switching speed, that's why its use in computers and LCD TV receivers, where large
switching speeds are required and very little voltage drop in direct current ... therefore it ensures very little
energy expenditure in the rectification.

The revision

Having reviewed these details, the first option in the repair of this type of switched sources is a cleaning of
the plate with some type of ideal substance. The sources in the HAIER LCD equipment should be checked
periodically, as they tend to break untimely after approximately two years of operation. The fatal defect
checked is due to the crystallization or false contact of the solders in the power switching transistors.

Maintenance

It has to do a previous maintenance in this model of TV, problem that tends to damage not only the source,
but also the "Main Board" that can be unusable. Therefore, the recommendation is to resolve the power
MOSFET transistors to avoid this factory defect and thereby ensure a long life to the TV receiver.

Repair

When you have to repair this power supply the first thing that is recommended is to disconnect the fuse from
the board, indicated in the first image of the cover as F1 and to connect in its place a bulb (lamp or bulb) 25
Watt incandescent, or in its defect a resistance of 200 ohm 10 Watt, with the objective of controlling the
protected minimum starting current, so that it can absorb any over current due to error or short circuit in the
repair process, for a controlled and safe start.

Precautions PFC circuit

We had already talked about the PFC block, but the important thing this time is the precaution to be taken
into account. Our recommendation is to disconnect the power switch transistor from the PFC circuit, usually
a mosfet transistor of type MDF13N50 or similar 2SK4086LS, sometimes screen printed on the board as
Q901 or Q101 on other models. The only objective when disconnecting the transistor from the circuit is to
avoid a voltage of 390V to 400V in the C920 filter capacitor that could be dangerous, more if it was a novice
who made the repair of the source.

Therefore, when removing this transistor from the circuit, the PFC correction block of 390V would reach only
155V in the source filter. Something that does not prevent, repair and test the source vacuum. Interposed the
light bulb and disconnected the transistor of the PFC, proceeds to check the state of the source.

Flyback converter

The stage that usually tends to be damaged in the usual way is the 12V and 24V flyback converter block, to
which we will make a notation. As indicated, the flyback converter circuit is the block responsible for
supplying the voltage to the equipment. To energize this block, a voltage of 14V from the stan-by is activated
through the control processor that manipulates the optocoupler and this in turn to a transistor that feeds the
stage by means of a diode, the JM8 draining its voltage to the R5 to charge the filter through the limiting
resistor R300 up to C300 applying 14V to the pin 5 "VDD" integrated circuit drive oscillator.

The integrated circuit U301 (see cover image) is a simplified variant of CMOS technology. It is a 6-pin chip
and is described as a circuit of very low power and soft start in burst, achieved at frequencies of 20Khz at
startup, which translates into an energy saving for switched sources of only 20uA. It has a highly integrated
and optimized PWM mode control, achieving high performance and low consumption in the standby
condition.

It is an externally programmable flyback converter which, in the absence of a load or with a light load, will
work in "burst mode" to minimize energy loss, thus also achieving a small extra consumption power and a
higher conversion efficiency.

The integrated circuit is SMD miniature provides a better internal control application, with a minimum amount
of external components at lower cost, and can be used for multiple applications such as: battery charger,
power adapter, modules for power sources, external sources of energy like this case.

The function in this integrated circuit includes current detection, internal slope compensation, all
concentrated in a small SOT23-6 capsule. These miniature integrated circuits can appear with the following
silhouetted nomenclatures: SG6848, LD7535, CR6851, UC3863, LD7535A, OB2262, R7731, GR8830,
SF1531, OB2263, T135, 63A31, 62A04, F13S, 73E25, LUP36R, K0P36R, LJP36.

In the 6-pin chips, in some of them the position of the pin changes, but they are described in the following
way:

1.- GND Pin of connection to earth of the integrated circuit, point where all the currents of the circuit come
together.

2.- FB Feedback or return, it is the pin for the control of the voltage of the switched source, it is a reference
or signal that returns (FB) of the regulating circuit through an optocoupler in the stage of the output voltage
to correct linearly the voltage of the source.

3.- RI This pin is used to program the PWM switching frequency inside the chip, connecting a resistance of
100K to ground it is possible to adjust the switching of the source to 65Khz, but in a programmed way it is
adjusted in a range that can vary from 20Khz at 70Khz.
The PWM working frequency of the integrated circuit is calculated through the equation:

Fosc = 6500 / RI and can be derived to Fosc = 6650 / RI

The resistance in (Kohm) and the frequency in (KHz). The range of this programming resistance (RI) can
vary between 50Kohm to 150Kohm and from 50KHz to 100KHz depending on the type of chip.

4.- SENSE

point through which the protections of the integrated circuit can be measured and adjusted. The input
impedance on this pin is 40Kohm.

5.- VDD Pin supplying the supply voltage to the integrated circuit. The operating voltages can be between
12V to 25V stably.

6.- GATE Output of the PWM pulse to operate the gate (GATE) of the MOSFET power switching transistor to
the chopper transformer.

Common failures

It had already been commented that the usual faults were due to soft, crystallized solders, given by the
extreme temperature of the "flyback converter" block of 12V and 24V. The breaks point to the power
transistor, which may have the Q12 screenprint in a source model, but it may also be Q103 or the Q903 for
other models.

The dangerous part of the damage is when there is a false contact in the transistor, something that can
short-circuit it due to errors in the switching time. If this happens, the large amount of energy accumulated in
the coil of the chopper transformer can trigger, when it is released, a very high output voltage higher than the
nominal one, which would create irreversible damage to the components of the source, as well as to the
main board.

When the damages are in the power supply, they are specified by transistors Q10 and Q11, driver of the
power transistor, which modulate the PWM slope avoiding the accumulation in the active linear zone, as well
as minimizing the period of the necessary field voltage in the transistor door. The excitation voltage of the
transistors comes from the 14V power supply of the chip. Also, when there is a short circuit in the transistor,
the resistors of the power transistor spout that tend to be punctured must be checked.

When the damage is very serious, the break involves the replacement of the U301 chip for useless, in
addition to the possible replacement of the rectifier diodes of the 12V and 24V stage and the review of the
disruptive capacitors connected in parallel to these diodes.

Fine tunning

After the damaged components are replaced in the "Flyback converter" stage, the power supply is activated
in a vacuum, without load. To do this, verify that the stand-by voltage of 5V is present and a jumper will be
made between points TP3 and TP4. If everything goes well, the bulb connected to the fuse position should
be off. A voltage of 14V appears on the R300 and the C300 filter, measured on the VDD pin of the integrated
circuit U301.

As a result, the voltages of 12V and 24V must appear in the rectifier diodes. If everything is correct, those
will be the supply stresses of the unloaded source. So we will proceed to restore and connect the PFC circuit
switch transistor Q901 or Q101 according to the power supply model, to check that the voltage of 390V is
restored in the source capacitor.

At this point, the bulb or limiting resistor connected to the fuse will be disconnected, reinstalling the F1 fuse
and reconnecting the source to the LCD TV.

When turning on the TV, you should periodically check the power supply voltage of "12V and 24V" in addition
to the temperature of the power components for 1 hour. If in that lapse of time there are no proven difficulties
or noise in the image, the repair will be considered finished.

Precautions

In cases where the protection bulb remains lit, it must be thoroughly checked what causes this excess
current in the power supply. In the case that it was a resistance of 200 ohm to 10W the heating of it is
perceived when there is the same fault, at all times there can be no heating in this resistance. Never remove
these items until you have solved this problem.

Remember that the "Green Mode Power" sources of these televisions will always have the exact voltage of
12V and 24V at the output, either empty or full load.
