Activity Plan 3 Year olds

Theme: Water

Sub Theme: Rain

Concept/Content: Rain hat, rubber boots, (galoshes) are rain clothing: these

clothes help to keep us dry. An umbrella is used in the rain to keep us dry.
Objectives: After observing pictures/videos, word cards and participating in

a discussion, children should be able to:

• Identify clothes that are worn to protect us from the rain

• Describe the rain clothes presented and share their experience

wearing rain clothes

• Match at least two rain clothes to the word that identifies them

• Make at least two sentences using word cards

• Count three items of rain clothing.

• Write one sentence describing one rain clothing. (The hat is red)

Circle Time

Name of Activity: Rain Clothes

Introductory Activity: Children will sing the song “Rain, rain go

away.” Parents will ask child/children to name the clothes they would wear

when it rains.

How to do:

Children will look at the pictures of rain clothes. They will tell what they are

and describe them. Children will say why they use each item of clothing.

(They are used to keep us dry when it rains). Children will share their

experiences wearing rain clothes. (If they don’t have rain clothes, they can

share how it feels walking in the rain).Parents will present the word card

that represents each item of clothing. Children will match the item of

clothing to the words. Parents may shuffle the words and items and let

children match them again.


Parents Checklist: Were children/child able to:

• Describe the rain clothes?

• Tell why they wear rain clothes?

• Identify the word that names each rain clothes?

• Match the item of clothing to the word?

• Share experience while wearing rain clothes

Activity Title: Rain Clothes Sentences

Introductory Activity: Children will look at the pictures (see resources) and

describe the rain clothes

How to do: Children will describe the hat, the rain boots (galoshes) and the

umbrella. They should say

1. The hat is red

2. The rubber boots are red

3. The umbrella is red

Children will count the number of rain clothes presented.

Parents should cut out the word cards (see resources). Parents will identify each

word card and match them to the picture. Children will arrange the word cards to

make the sentences as listed above. (Parents will make word cards if there is

no printing facility)

Children can write the sentence “The hat is red.”

Parent’s checklist: Were children able to:


• Identify and name the rain clothes?
• Match the rain clothes to the word cards with the names that identify
them?
• Make at least two sentences using word cards?
• Write one sentence about rain clothes?
• Count the number of rain clothes presented?

How to play: Parents will instruct the child/children to draw a rainy day

scene including umbrella, raincoat, rain boots etc. Child/ children will use

their favourite colours

• Say what Harry thought was happening when the rain drops started

• Name at least 2 items of clothing worn outdoors when it rains

• Compare the clothes worn by mommy and Harry during the rain

Follow-Up: Parents should help children paste pictures of things that children

can do on a rainy day.
