playdough ,cardboard, large buttons, leaves, feathers, google eyes
Activities: Circle Time
Activity:
Step 1. parent will use a recorder or phone to record different bird sounds.
(e.g. chicken, duck, turkey)
Sing the Song:
‘Six little Birds that I once knew
Fat ones, skinny ones, fair ones too
But the one little bird with the feather on his back
He led the others with his chirp, chirp, chirp
chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp
He led the others with his chirp, chirp, chirp
Step 2. Parent will play one sound loud and softly out of the sight of the
child.
Step 3. Parent should ask: “What was that sound you heard?”
Allow your child to answer and make predictions.
Encourage your child to identify the sound of a bird when playing the tape
or recorder. Ask your child to imitate some of the bird sounds heard.
Creative Activity:
Step 2. Because the focus of the activity is the color sorting, you can make
the little turkey bodies for this activity and set everything out like the
picture below. Please note for younger toddlers you might introduce one
color bird and the matching feathers at a time and discuss the colors as
your child adds the feathers. Then over a couple of days introduce the
other colors, building up to having multiple colors.
Step 3. Allow your child to sort feathers or leaves to match the play dough.
As your child pokes the feathers into the play dough he or she is
strengthening his or her little fine motor muscles that are so important
for writing later on.
Indoor/Outdoor Play
Activity:
Step 1. Show your child a video of a penguin moving. Let your child know
that we are going to wobble or move like the penguin
Step 2. Give your child a large ball and ask him or her to put it between the
knees and walk [or wobble like a penguin!]
Step 3. Allow your child to move to different distances. Always praise your
child.
