Parental Activity Plan: Week 3 Day 1

Date: March 30, 2020

Age: 2 yrs. old

Theme: Flowers

Objective(s):
1. Feel wet and dry soil around flowers in beds or pots.
2. Engage in conversation about the importance of water to the flowers.
3. Select music and dance
4. Use at least 1 facial expression to express happiness
5. Stack up to 5 plastic cups and knock them over with a large plastic bottle

Resources:

flowers (potted or in garden), small plastic container or pitcher, plastic


cups/disposable cups, 1 litre empty soda bottle, scrap book, CD Player or
electronic device with music

Activities: Circle Time

Name of Activity: Water Play

Activity:

Step 1: Accompany child to the outdoor or area with potted plants. Allow child to
manipulate the soil. Use questions to start conversation about how solid feels.

Step 2: Allow child to water plant or area around plant and to manipulate the wet
soil. Continue conversation to have him/her talk about how solid feels now.

Step 3. Facilitate the watering of additional flowers that child selects.

Step 4. Continue conversation so child can share how watering plants makes
him/her feel.
Creative Activity:

Name of Activity: Flower Dance

Activity:

Step 1. Prepare child for flower dance by having him/her identifying


him/herself as his/her favourite flower;

Step 2. Allow child to select music of his/her choice

Step 3. Encourage child to dance and participate in routine by providing own


movements to the music

Step 4. Share how dancing makes you feel and encourage child to do the
same using facial expression.

Indoor/Outdoor Play

Name of Activity: Target Practice

Activity:

Step 1. Sanitize plastic cups and soda bottle beforehand or ensure use of
clean containers.

Step 2. On a flat surface, indoor or outdoor, allow child to stack plastic


containers on each other up to 5.

Step 3. Allow child to swing plastic bottle to hit stacked cups. Repeat 2
times and take turn with child to do the activity. Commend the child as
he/she stacks or hits.
Story Time:

Name of Activity: Chu Chu and the Plant

Activity: Prepare by providing comfort toy or cushion. Using an electronic device


(phone, tablet, laptop etc.) with internet access, click on the link below to have
child watch and listen to the story

Follow-Up: Facilitate watering of potted flowers or select flowers in the garden.

Allow child to draw circles and sticks to show flowers on a stem

Ask the child to tell what Chu Chu did to the plant.
