Listening part three

For the part three exam you will be asked some extra questions on the topic you have chosen

This can be a bit more difficult, as you could be asked a question that you have not prepared for

How should we answer these questions?

The best way is to listen to the question and then use the question to answer the question

For example:

What are people in Ireland famous for?

People in Ireland are famous for creating content on YouTube, singing and dancing.

If you follow this method it is difficult to make mistakes, because you will stay in the same tense and
all you have to do is add some extra information that is, answering the question.

Have a look at another example:

Travel

What types of trips do Irish people like to take?

Irish people like to take trips to the beach, to the mountains to visit scenic areas and to cities around
Europe on weekend breaks

Remember this is supposed to be a conversation so the examiner will ask questions like, why? & what
do you mean by that? Or can you give me an example?

In the question above on fame, “What are people in Ireland famous for?” the answer given included
“creating content on YouTube, singing and dancing” an examiner would then ask for an example. For
this you need a good example of someone doing what you have described

So, you will have to name one person and then give some extra information

“What are people in Ireland famous for?”

“People in Ireland are famous for creating content on YouTube, singing and
dancing.”
“Yes, one person that I know who was very famous in Ireland was Dolores O
Riordan. She was from Limerick city. She was a famous singer in a band called the
Cranberries. She was a beautiful singer. They had some great songs, like Zombie
and All for my family. Unfortunately she died in an accident a couple of years
ago.”
Note that the answer above:

 Gave the person’s name

 Where she was from
 Some information on the songs that she sang
 Where she is now

Let’s look at another one:

“What types of trips do Irish people like to take?”

“Irish people like to take trips to the beach, to the mountains to visit scenic areas
and to cities around Europe on weekend breaks”
“Can you give me an example of that?”
“Yes, take my sister for example. Before she had kids she would travel to mainland
Europe for short city breaks. These are two or three day trips to places like
Amsterdam in Holland or Prague in the Czech Republic. You can go to the local
museums, restaurants and parks and get a feel for the city and country.”
Note in the example above:

 I gave a real example of someone I know – this makes it more like a real conversation
 I described what a city break is
 I gave an example of where people can go
 I gave examples of what people can do on city breaks

have seen some celebrities, literally, but I have never had a chance to meet or talk with
