Introduction

Do you know that most people confuse intelligent quotient and emotional intelligence with others
thinking the former is more marketable? Well things seem to be changing. According yo Harvey, in his
article of '7 reasons why emotional intelligence is one of the fastest growing skill', he introduces the skill
of emotional intelligence and presents statistics of hiring managers accompanied by supporting reasons
for the same. The aim of this rhetoric analysis is therefore to look at how he uses rhetoric in achieving
this goal.

The article have choosen herein discusses reasons as to why emotional intelligence is one of the
fastest growing skill. The qualitu wnd authority of the author is aunthetic since he refers to reports by
organisations such as the report by World economic forum's future jobs abd the survey conducted by
rhe career builder. He has a background for his article which makes the article appealing to the
audience. The audience soughy to be addressed by the author are the employers and the employees
since this is an article touching on the work force which is eventuallu needed by the employeers. It is an
appeal to the employees to develop their emotional intelligence so as to market themselves while on
the side of the employers it creates awareness.

The author employs the use of statistics from organizations to back up his message to his audience.
For example, in 2011, through a survey conducted by Career builders, among 2600 hiring managers, 71%
highly valued emotional intelligence while 75% was likely to promote highly emtional intelligent
employees. Further, the author gives reasons as to why there is this turn of events and among them
include the fact that highly emotional intelligent people are good at handling pressure in an health
manner, they comprehend and co-operate with others, they are good at listening, open to feedback,
empathetic in nature and their decisions are thoughtful and thorough. The author gives the audience
the reason for his claim which seems more of an appeal to them as to why they should consider highly
emotional intelligent persons.

Conclusion.

The article may not be regarded as an emotional appeal since there are no heart strings but it is more
of a black qnd white article which draws a line between emotional intelligent persons and those with
high intelligent quotient. Basically, the author has incorporated the necessary appeals such as pathos,
logos and ethos not only to enhance his text but also make an appeal to his audience.
