as submitted from 2018 to the 2021 International
Plumbing Code (IPC) change hearings. There were many
code change proposals and two rounds of code hearings
for the 2018 IPC. The following is a summary of the
significant code changes that were approved during the
International Code Council hearings in Columbus, Ohio,
and Richmond, Va.
These code changes will appear in the 2021 edition
of the International Plumbing Code, which will soon be
published and available for jurisdictions to consider for
adoption. I recommend you refer to the 2021 IPC for the
final version of any code changes reported on hereinafter.

Is Off-Grid Living
Making a Comeback?
The current pandemic is boosting interest in various

COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on our health
and day-to-day existence.
As I write this, it’s difficult to make predictions even
a few weeks ahead about what happens next. Still, it is
likely that during the latter half of the year, Americans
will be affected as much by the recession the pandemic
has created, as by the disease itself.
If unemployment levels remain high or increase, people
may start doing crazy things. During May, armed protest-
ers in Michigan stormed the legislature, voicing opposi-
tion to lockdown rules. As the weather and the recession
both heat up, numerous chaotic scenarios could emerge.

All schools are a vital part of their neighborhood.
There is so much more involved than just feeding, car-

social activities, volunteer work, or providing before and

made to breathe new life into these campuses will be
felt and appreciated by families and teachers for years
