How does the digestive system break down food to nourish the body?
Explain your answer.
Digestion is important for breaking down food into nutrients, which the body uses for
energy, growth, and cell repair. Food and drink must be changed into smaller molecules
of nutrients before the blood absorbs them and carries them to cells throughout the
body. The process starts in the mouth where foods are mechanically broken down. It
then goes through the esophagus until it reaches the stomach where there’s an enzyme
helping the food to be totally breaks down into chyme (a semi fluid which contains
nutrient of food) that goes into the small intestine ready to be absorbed by the villi inside
the small intestine. After all the nutrients are absorbed by the villi then transport those
nutrients into our cells in every part of the body. Water is reabsorbed in the large
intestine and unabsorbed and unneeded materials/ cast that are left are being store in
the large intestine which will soon come out as feces into the anus
