Service Access Unit (SAU) IP – Getting Started

This document contains a brief description on how to install a SAU IP plug-in unit in a MINI-LINK E
Access Module Magazine (AMM) and how to configure the unit in order to access the complete online
manual via the embedded web server of the SAU IP.

Note: The installation of MINI-LINK E equipment must be completed according to MINI-LINK E ETSI
Indoor Installation Manual and MINI-LINK E ANSI Indoor Installation Manual prior to installing the SAU
IP.

Hardware Installation

1. If a plug-in unit is already installed in the top-most position of the AMM:

tools found on the inside of the front cover.

2. Insert the SAU IP plug-in into the top-most position of the AMM:

Starting the Local Craft Terminal (LCT)

This instruction assumes that the SAU IP has not been previously installed, meaning that it will start up in
installation mode when powered on. This is indicated by a green flashing LED on the SAU IP front panel.

To start the LCT:

1. Connect an Ethernet cable (crossed, twisted pair) between your PC and any of the two 10/100BASE-
T connectors on the front of the SAU IP. Make sure that the corresponding yellow LED turns ON
indicating link up.

2. Configure the PC to use a dynamic IP address obtained from the DHCP server in the SAU IP.

For Windows 98 / Windows NT:


- On the Start menu, click Settings Æ Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, double-click Network.
- In the Network dialog box, select the Protocols tab, select TCP/IP and click Properties.
- In the TCP/IP Properties dialog box, select Obtain an IP Address from a DHCP Server.
- Click OK and restart your PC.

For Windows XP:


- On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, double-click Network Connections.
- In the Network Connections folder, right-click the connection to be used and click Properties on the shortcut
menu.
- In the Connection Properties dialog box, select Obtain an IP Address automatically.
- Click OK.

For Windows 2000:


- On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.
- In the Network and Dial-up Connections folder, right-click the connection to be used and click Properties on
the shortcut menu.
- In the Connections Properties dialog box, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.
- In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, select Obtain an IP Address automatically.
- Click OK.

Note: It is also possible to configure the PC to use the static IP address 10.0.0.2.

3. Start a Web browser and make sure your browser is configured not to use a proxy server.

Configuring Internet Explorer not to use a proxy server:


- On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
- In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Connections tab.
- Click LAN Settings.
- In the Local Area Network (LAN) settings dialog box, clear the Use a proxy server check box and click OK.

4. Enter the URL http://10.0.0.1 and open the online help by clicking Help.
