Diagnostic Accuracy of Sputum Microscopy in Comparison With GeneXpert in Pulmonary

Tuberculosis

After hearing the presentation of PGI Allen Diosomito about the diagnostic critical appraisal
entitled, “Diagnostic Accuracy of Sputum Microscopy in Comparison With GeneXpert in Pulmonary
Tuberculosis”, I realized as a physician that Sputum smear microscopy is highly specific but moderately
sensitive test for the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis and GeneXpert is the preferred method over
the sputum microscopy to avoid a false negative result for pulmonary tuberculosis. In the future, I will
be able to request a more appropriate laboratory examination method to my future patient with
pulmonary tuberculosis and will be able to avoid the missed diagnosis of this disease.
