Problems

Safety

Airbnb is a remarkable organization. As safety is the most important concern these

days. When coming to the safety Airbnb should pay more attention towards their
customer or guests safety. Me and my relatives whomsoever uses Airbnb get some
bad experiences. There are few issues which I and my relatives faced through the
Airbnb.

Problems encountered

Problem 1: Host cancel the reservation

Airbnb hosts cancels the bookings at the last moment is the issue which people are
facing these days which is the most important safety concern these days. These
issue is realted to the family or an individual.

Experience: This happened with me, when I was in India was looking for rooms to
quarantine in Canada for the initial days as I was not getting a house to rent.i
booked a room using Airbnb bu when I reached there on the day of my bookings I
came to know that someone other is already living there. When I tried calling the
host I came to know that the host cancelled my reservation as he get some other
person who pays more than me. He talks to me very rudely and ask me to go and
find some other place to live. As I came in January this year its really very snow
outside and I am all alone on the road which gave me a feeling of unsafety as its
already 11 o’clock at night and I don’t know anyone here. A lady was going
through there. I asked her for help. And she helped me and ask me to live at her
place for one night as she has one vacant room at her place. Next morning I called
911. They filed a complaint against the host.

Recommendation:

 Ask for refund

 Ask the host to find some other location to live
 Or find the location by ourselves
 Give a call to the police

Problem 2: Unsafe environment

Sometimes the place provided by the host of Airbnb does not provide the safety to
the person wellbeing and belongings. As the problem of theft and kidnapping rose
these days so every host should provide safe environment to their customer/guest.
As the customer safety is the first priority of any host. But I remember one incident
which is totally different from this.

Experience: This happened to my maternal uncle when he went for some business
work in Sweden. When he arrived at the room he come to know that there was a
car with two men out front of the house and as they approached the house to go in.
He saw there were two men who were walking towards the home. When they got
inside, he was scared and they put him on the gunpoint and ask him to whatever he
has give them. They took his mobile phone, money and a gold chain with them.
They were going to other rooms also but when they checked the back porch they
saw something and thought someone was possibly living on the back porch. Or
using it for something. There was a few grocery bags full of trash broke open and
scattered (cleaning lady didn’t retrieve trash from last guest). They seems that there
was someone sitting. After seeing that, they got scared and went away. After that
my uncle went to the reception and ask her to call the police.

Recommendations: -

 Always lock the door and don’t sleep with windows open.
 Double check all the entrances are locked before turning in.
 Add some alarms in each home and rooms for an emergency.
 Airbnb should provide safety to their customers on a proper basis without
any chance of mistake.

Problem 3: No safety amenities

A new analysis shows that some Airbnb's are failing to provide basic fire
protection that is legally required for hotels and motels.

While they are not required by law, the research done by the Johns Hopkins
Bloomberg School of Public Health using InsideAirbnb shows that only 56 percent
of Airbnb have carbon monoxide detectors and only 42 percent had fire
extinguishers.
Researchers say they are concerned with these number because they show a lack of
national safety standards for services like Airbnb. Hotels and motels are required to
post fire escape routes, fire doors, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, fire
sprinkler systems, and exit passageways. Airbnb's are not.

Experience: My friend faced this when he went on his vacation with his family to
Goa. He booked a house through Airbnb. He told me that when he went there all
the safety amenities likewise fire extinguisher are not present there. When he asked
the host he told him that there is a no need for them.

Recommendations: While researchers say they are concerned about these

findings, Airbnb says these numbers show that they are above the national average
when it comes to carbon monoxide detectors inside homes.
Also, they say that while safety supplies may not be monitored like they are in
hotels, whenever a host signs up to use Airbnb, part of doing so is certifying that
they comply with local laws, including having certain safety precautions. They
continued to say that when it comes to Carbon Monoxide detectors, there are more
states with safety regulations on CO detectors in private homes than hotels.
