About Human Power Vehicle
This project was carried out as a team for an international event
that is the name itself suggests that all vehicles that are
powered only by human muscular strength.
The large area of HPV can be divided into many categories.
The most important vehicle is the bicycle , but one can find
HPV's in the air, in and under the water and also on
the rail.
Some HPV's are built for the competition to get faster and
faster like our’s, but mostly are for daily use.

➢ ASME (Hosting authority)

ASME stands for American Society Of Mechanical Engineers.

Founded in 1880 by a small group of leading industrialists,
ASME has grown through the decades to include more than
100,000 members in 140+ countries. Thirty-two thousand of
these members are students.

➢ Human Powered Vehicle Challenge:

Human Powered Vehicle Challenge (HPVC) is an
engineering design and innovation competition that allows
students to connect to world and apply engineering principles
through the design, fabrication, and racing of human-
powered vehicles.

STEERING AND BRAKING

◼ Ashish Gupta (BRAKING)

◼ Shreyansh Jain (BRAKING)
◼ Someshwar Sinha (STEERING)
◼ Saurav Singh (STEERING)

Resources for the project

AISI 1020 cold rolled steel pipes are used for constructing
main frame as well as steering system of the vehicle.

Disk brake and shoe brake are used to facilitate braking

action.

Main Reason For Building This Project

We undertook the opportunity to work for this project to gain the

practical and designing skills related to mechanical engineering
like working on solidworks , cutting , welding operations etc.
Also we can compete with the teams across India and work
according to international standards.
Our college Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta Institute of Technology and
Management has been participating in the event for years with
vehicle name as ‘ASHVA 4.0’ and team name as ‘HERMES’.

BRAKING

➢ Braking is used for decelerating and stopping

the vehicle in motion.
➢Brakes are of various types like disk brakes ,
shoe brakes , band brakes etc.

DISK BRAKE SHOE BRAKE

STEERING
➢ Steering is used to facilitate turning and
balancing action while riding a vehicle.
➢ Steering system for a vehicle depends on
number and position of wheels on it.

LITERATURE SURVEY

◼ Land vehicles
➢ The most efficient human-powered land vehicle is the bicycle.
➢ Skateboards have the advantage of being so small and light that users can
easily carry them.
➢ In 2016, AeroVelo cyclist Todd Reichert achieved the human-powered speed
record of 142.04 km/h (88.26 mph) with a velomobile at Battle Mountain,
Nevada.

◼ Aircraft
➢ The current distance record recognised by the FAI was achieved on 23 April
1988 from Iraklion on Crete to Santorini in the MIT Daedalus 88 piloted by
Kanellos Kanellopoulos: a straight distance of 115.11 km (71.53 mi).

◼ Hydrofoils
➢ The world speed record on water was set 27 October 1991 by MIT professor
Mark Drela who pedalled a human-powered hydrofoil, "Decavitator", to 18.5
knots (21.3 mph)(9.53 meters/second) over a 100-meter course in Boston,
Massachusetts, US.
