Public Health & Mental Health Problems in
Pakistan
Introduction:
There is an Alarming increase in the incidence of mental illness due to the
ongoing wave of violence, political unrest and ongoing changes in social
structures in many countries around the world. As a result, a range of
Psychiatric Disorders, such as Depression, Substance Abuse, Schizophrenia,
Bipolar Disorder, And Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, has been reported.
Many suicides are committed each year in both developed and developing
countries because of Mental Health Problems.

The mental health problems in Pakistan, a developing country, have in recent

decades reached an alarming level linked to the ongoing violence in Pakistani
society and the disruption of social structure. Many researchers have agreed
that the psychological impact of whole societies will be stronger than
psychopathology. However, the high level of exposure to traumatic events is
known to be associated with a significant increase in serious mental health
problems. This ongoing life-threatening violence has had a devastating effect
on the mental health of many people, especially in Pakistani society.
The response to the health care
system in these areas varies in
developed and developing
countries on almost all levels
including: policy, the role of
educational institutions, financial
resources, infrastructure
development, public-private
partnerships, educational and
research efforts, public services
and human rights issues.

Summary:
The Current Issues Of Mental Health In Pakistan
The prevalence of mental health problems in Pakistan is growing rapidly,
as a result of the present acute situation, in the Pakistani society.
Common mental health problems have been identified in both the rural
and the urban population, which is positively correlated with the socio-
economic problems, relationship problems, and lack of social support.
Depression and anxiety seem to be the highest, followed by bipolar
affective disorder, schizophrenia, psycho-somatic disorders, such as
obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. There
is also a high prevalence of depression among Afghan refugees in
Pakistan. In addition, there is a serious problem of alcohol and drug
abuse.
According to the most recent national survey, there are an estimated
four million drug addicts in Pakistan, and it is the increase in the number
of injecting drug users in the city the population is the root cause of the
difficulties in the field of public health. However, the morbidity of adults is
underestimated due to the social stigma in the context of the family and
be proud. However, the current wave of violence and aggression in the
Pakistani society, it is not an easy activity. Over the last five years,
Pakistan has seen an increase in violence, including suicide attacks,
bombings, and even preventive measures, such as the long curfews,
and have resulted in an unprecedented and material costs. Residents
that have experienced heavy fighting between the security forces and
the insurgents. In addition, the constant violence, and the threat to life,
and there is also a negative effect on the mental health of so many
people. The psychological trauma resulting from violence is growing, it
still dominates in the region as a whole. As a result, the people on the
show a number of symptoms of psychological trauma, which affects all
aspects of their lives.

Care Responses
The response of the health sector, in
particular, mental health care, and in the
Swat Valley, have not kept pace with the
increase in the incidence of mental health
disorders. Mental health services continue
to face a lack of resources within the
framework of the education and training of
specialists for the patients at the municipal level, and the limited financial
resources (mostly confined to the cities, and in spite of the fact that the
vast majority of the population lives in rural areas. However, all of the
available resources are not fully utilised due to the social stigma
associated with mental labeling, and the widespread public
misconception that mental illness is associated with the "Start" or the evil
eye, " or " Jadhoo "(magic), which seems to confirm that patients to turn
to traditional healers, who are often dominated by other mental health
disorders .

There are only a few professionals in the mental health care system in
the country, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers
who provide mental health care. In the Swat Valley region, there is only
one psychiatrist per the more than two million people who do not have
the proper medical care. The number of beds in psychiatric hospitals in
general, and especially in the Swat Valley, the Hospital is reduced in
comparison with the general population. That is why the majority of
people with mental illness do not have access to mental health services,
which they are not aware of it. Or, they turn to traditional healers, or they
have a life of their own off of psychiatric disorders.

The Role Of Non-Governmental Organizations

Non-governmental organizations (Ngo's) dedicated to the promotion of
mental health in Pakistan has been developed in the last couple of
decades, but I couldn't keep up with the increasing demand for higher
level of service. Their role is to in any event be limited to the
implementation of public awareness programmes, with discrimination on
the grounds of gender issues, and social and cultural events. They do
not have a comprehensive strategy in order to help tackle mental health
problems, especially in the Swat Valley. In spite of these limitations, it
enables organizations to take the lead in the reform of mental health
policy, and the upgrading of facilities for the treatment and handling of
the institutionalisation of shared services for mental health, less stress,
and the need to go through the red channel. In addition, non-
governmental organizations can play an important role in the promotion
of mental well-being of the policy and the
application of the principles of community
psychiatry, and within a geographically
defined population groups in the delivery
of treatment in the healing and the
creation of multi-disciplinary teams to
ensure continuity of care and to
encourage the participation of those
affected. However, this approach could
be integrated into public-private
partnerships can be integrated in the
basic health care package, which is presented in the next section.

Conclusion:
The interaction between human health and the environment should be
focused on maintaining the health of the public, and the environment in
the country. Each year, the majority of illnesses and deaths occur in the
country, as a result of environmental concerns. Several factors are
responsible for the impact on public health. Health and the environment
are connected to each other, and so to live a healthy life, we need an
environment, which needs to be clean and safe. If the area is clean and
dry, it has a direct impact on the condition of your health in a positive
way. We need to find the applicable rules and regulations, the laws and
policies in support of public health and the environment. Non-profit
organisations, public or private, to work together in order to effectively
protect, manage, and maintain public health and the environment. We've
got more money, but we do not have clean air to breathe, we don't have
clean water to drink, we don't have a clean environment to live in. For
the best protection, management and conservation of the environment, it
is not just the responsibility of one person but all the people must come
together to ensure the safety of human health and the environment.
