A Walk of Faith: A Bio Sketch Entry

Jaina A. Cuesta

Once was a blithesome kiddo who’s got superfluous desires in life that even a leaf of

paper won’t accommodate her entire bucket list. “I want to be a surgeon, flight attendant, dance

instructor, CEO, public attorney, and then I’m going to turn our house into a mansion, going to

place a wide pool, elegant rooftop, enticing garden, buy a luxurious limousine, plan my own

business, and then…”, she would take a deep breath, then realized she’s talking too much.

Talking at a blistering pace set her ecstatic heart in a blazing fire to conquer her dreams. Blinded

by her innocence, she was clueless that the world doesn’t work that way she expected it to be.

Growing up is a trap because every milestone of her existence was a slap of reality to her

sorry visage. Yes, she is a victim of her own dreams. Everything seemed to be null and void,

even the very wish list on the paper has gone empty…and became elusive.

To be in the spectrum of real life, tons of vices will come on its way to test one’s depth of

making sound decisions, but oh, she’s a charlatan to it. As she marches on the stage to receive

the sweet fruit of her painful toil, her knees were madly trembling coupled with a shivering lips

bringing up an ostentatious smile neither because of the overwhelming crowd nor the presence of

renowned guests, but due to her indecisiveness even after trekking for so long. In her 18 years of

being in the voyage, she spent her life under the regime of people’s dictatorship. However, she

puts no blame to those surrounding her for the case highlights her dearth of self-trust and

independence. She was accustomed to a scenario were entrusting the verdict, even the petty ones,

to the “more knowledgeable others” became her lifestyle. It was like standing at the edge of the

cliff and pushed herself down into the gaping abyss—thereafter found herself falling into the
language world unanticipatedly. “I did not see it coming!” she avers. She was brought to a place

she never thought before, but it shouldn’t clog her and just wander aimlessly in that unknown

lane. She might be perplexed of where she is right now, if that path suits her, truly there could’ve

been pieces of puzzle along the way designed as a guide until she fully discovers what the

destiny has for her as she continually walks by faith.
