WEIGHING THE BENEFITS OF SHS CURRICULUM

I am tasked with a bigger responsibility to do not only in terms of human and fiscal resources of
the school but also in the instructional assets of the school, the learning process of the students. Our
today’s curriculum, the K-12 curriculum in our Philippine educational setting is beneficial to students
because they will not be left behind with the other students all over the world. It has been seen as a
disadvantage for our students who are competing in an increasingly global job market because of the
previous 10-year educational cycle that we had. Being the only country in Asia implementing 10-year
educational cycle, this became a wake up call for the curriculum developers to make a change in our
educational system. But because of the recent change in our educational system, the 12-year
educational cycle that we have today, will be an avenue for our students to be globally competitive not
only in Asia but in other countries around the world.

This Senior High School curriculum is really beneficial to our students for it prepares them in
terms of proper communication skills, computational skills, information and technological skills,
entrepreneurial skills and other occupational skills, attitudes and values necessary for life-long struggles
and challenges in this highly modern and technological world. Thus, after finishing of graduating from
Senior High, students will be ready either to pursue their higher education to engage in or put up a
business or to engage in work/job either local or abroad because they can already sign a contract for for
by the time they graduate, they will already be of legal age. Hence, do not think SHS as a burden, rather
consider the benefits we can gain. So, we should work hand in hand in realizing the enormous benefits
of this educational reform for future generations.
