THE THIRD ASSISTANT ENGINEER IS RESPONSIBLE TO THE FIRST ASSISTANT
ENGINEER FOR NORMAL MAINTENANCE DUTIES AND TO THE CHIEF ENGINEER
FOR WATCH KEEPING DUTIES.

3/E RESPONSIBILITY:

- AUX. BOILER AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT.

- EXH. GAS ECONOMIZER AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT.
- M/E AND BOILER WATER TREATMENT AND ANALYSES.
- FRESH WATER GENERATOR AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT.
- FRESH WATER SYSTEM AND PUMPS.
- SEA WATER SYSTEM AND PUMPS.
- SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT WITH SANITARY SYSTEM.
- WASTE OIL INCINERATOR WITH SLUDGE SYSTEM.
- OILY WATER SEPARATOR WITH BILGE SYSTEM.
- DECK AIR COMPRESSOR.
- CHEMICAL STORE.
- E/R GARBAGE.
- END OF MONTH PAPERS.

AUX. BOILER & ECONOMIZER: Vertical type water tube boiler Tortoise MVW-150 is in
good working condition. Sunflame burning apparatus is rotary type. Necessary to keep in
clean condition rotary cup burner unit and grease it monthly. There are spare parts on
the upper shelve in the store. Aux. condenser was cleaned 15.07.2021. Blow down must
be carried out daily, except anchor and port moorage .Boiler scum blow must be carry
out 2-3 times per month. Blow gauge glasses daily. There is furnace cement in the rope
store. Alarms to be tested monthly according Shipboard application. Economizer is in
good working condition, LAST CLEANED IN THE MONTH OF JUNE. Boiler burner was last
cleaned @ 08.04.2021 and pilot burner was cleaned @26.02.2021.Soot blow must be
carry out every day, out of ECA area only. Wash properly Soot collecting tank by fresh
water after Economizer cleaning. Use Autotreat and Oxygen Scavenge Plus for boiler
water maintenance. Entering password of switchboard display 7065. Steam system and
equipment is good and free of leakages.

M/E AND BOILER WATER ANALYSE: must be carry out regularly and record results to
Waterproof program in the ECR computer. There is analyses equipment in ECR &
Chemical store.
 FRESH WATER GENERATOR: Tube type WM-40T is in good working condition.
Condenser and evaporator was cleaned @23.05.2021. Condition of Distillate and
Ejector pumps is good. Use Maxi-vap Plus or Vaptreat for water treatment .Presently
production about 25 mts daily.

PUMPS: All pumps are in good condition. Pumps maintenance is as per PMS. Fire GS
pump and Fire Bilge Ballast pump CASING NEWLY CHANGED. Fresh water and drinking
water pumps occupied gland packing. Check all pumps for leakages and some
abnormalities every watch.

EMERGENCY FIRE P/P:EMERGENCY FIRE PUMP IN GOOD ORDER .ATTACHED

VACUUM P/P OVERHAULED IN THE MONTH OF JULY.

WASTE OIL INCINERATOR: Model MIURA BGW-30N is in good condition. Furnace is

satisfactory. Clean chamber, W.O. burner nozzle, baffle plate and W.O. pump suction
filter every time before start. There is refractory material in vegetable store. Evaporation
system works properly. W.O TK clean IN THE MONTH OF JUNE.
Alarms to be tested monthly according Shipboard application. Use incinerator out of
ECA area only.

SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT AND SANITARY SYSTEM: Model Taiko SBH-25.

Plant’s condition is good. Back wash must be carry out every week. UV-lamp must be
checked every month. Use Gamazyme-700fn, chloride tablets for water treatment. Use
Gamazyme –BTC for cleaning maintenance. There is 1 spare Sewage discharge pump.
Sewage blower is in good condition and must be running continuously. Check oil level of
blower and air filter’s condition regullary.
There are two Gray water tanks IN ENGINE ROOM. Port side and Gray water sewage tank
Stbd side.Clean suction filter before discharging.IN FWD WE HAVE TWO GREY WATER
TANK WHICH MODIFIED FROM FRESH WATER TANK.GREY WATER FWD (S) AND FWD(P).
OILY WATER SEPARATOR: Model Taiko USH-20 is in good working condition.There is
1 new spare coalescer filter in the store. 15 ppm device and 3-way valve are in good
working condition. Clean Bilge pump suction filter and OWS filters before start. Don’t
start OWS without C/E permition. 15 ppm device and Bilge pump ‘AUTO STOP’ must be
tested regularly.23.02.2021 new filter Installed. Have one new spare.

DECK AIR COMPRESSOR: Model Atlas GA 45 FF is in good condition. Spare parts are
in the foam room.

BILGES: Bilges is in good condition and free of leakages. Wells and bilge deck were
cleaned regularly. Bilge alarms work properly and must be tested every week.

CHEMICALS: There is chemical store in Steering gear room. All cans are arranged and
secured properly. Acid, alkaline and neutral chemicals are segregated. Safety equipment
and MSDS are in the store’s shelve.

E/R GARBAGE: Take care about engine room garbage. Garbage to be segregated and
kept in separate garbage bin. E/R garbage station is in the workshop. Oily rags, plastic,
general items, food waste, electric bulbs, battery should be segregated. Burn oily rags
and papers in incinerator. Transfer another type of garbage and incinerator’s ash to the
ship garbage station.

OTHER: FO sludge tank and W.O.T WAS CLEANED IN THE MONTH OF JUNE.
Drinking water mineralizer FILTER CHANGED @ 05.04.2021

END OF MONTH REPORTS: Create HTML, PDF files of Waterproof Service, chemical
inventory and sent to C/E incoming folder. Use chemical request form for chemical’s
order.Fill up Forms in SBA.UPDATE JOBS AS PER PMS.
