WRITTEN WORK NO. 1

Answer the following questions scholarly. Consider using different references.

1. Define Measurement and Evaluation, what are the connections and why is it important?

Measurement is about the collection of data as performance or task and completed

by a sports person by using test and scientific techniques.

Evaluation is the process of physical education that involves a collection of data

from the products which can be used for comparison with preconceived criteria to
make a judgment.

The importance of measurement and evaluation in the field of games and sports
are to frame the objectives: setting target, goal according to the need and
requirement. To realize that the objectives are achieved or not.to understand the
need, ability, and capacity for any individual. To evaluate the learner so that
feedback can be given. To evaluate teaching programmed. For the classification or
grading of the students. To check the progress or improvement of the learner time to
time.

2. What are the criteria in making a good test? Explain each.

Validity – The first important characteristic of a good test is validity. The test must
really measure what it has been designed to measure. Validity is often assessed by
exploring how the test scores correspond to some criteria that is same behavior,
personal accomplishment or characteristics that reflects the attribute that the test
designed to gauge.

Reliability – A good test should be highly reliable. This means that the test should
give similar results even though different testers administrate it, different people
score in different forms of the test are given and the same person takes that test at
two or more different times. Reliability is usually checked by comparing different sets
of scores.

Objectivity – By objectivity of a measuring instrument is meant for the degree to

which equally competent users get the same results. This presupposes subjective
factor. A test is objective when it makes for the elimination of the scorer’s personal
opinion bias judgment. The recognition of the quality objectivity in a test has been
largely responsible for the development of an arise and objective type of test.

Norms – In addition to reliability and validity test needs norms. Norms are sets of
score obtained by whom the test is intended. The scores obtained by these groups
provide a basic for interpreting any individual score.

3. What are the different steps in making a good test in physical education?
Step # 1. Planning the Test: Planning of the test is the first important step in the test
construction. The main goal of evaluation process is to collect valid, reliable and
useful data about the student.

Step # 2. Preparing the Test: After planning preparation is the next important step in
the test construction. In this step the test items are constructed in accordance with
the table of specification. Each type of test item need special care for construction.

Step # 3. Try Out of the Test: Once the test is prepared now it is time to be
confirming the validity, reliability and usability of the test. Try out helps us to identify
defective and ambiguous items, to determine the difficulty level of the test and to
determine the discriminating power of the items.

Step # 4. Evaluating the Test: Evaluating the test is most important step in the test
construction process. Evaluation is necessary to determine the quality of the test and
the quality of responses. Quality of the test implies that how good and dependable
the test is? Quality of responses means which items are misfit in the test. It also
enables us to evaluate the usability of the test in general classroom situation.
