Objective: How to develop multicultural awareness and understanding in a classroom
environment. Ways to address the history of European Immigration in the US. In force proper
etiquette when discussing foreign culture. Learn to welcome new cultures into your personal
perspective and be nonjudgmental.

Materials/Equipment: PowerPoint, and a Kahoot – Class Activity

Instruction:

 Ask the Class: Does everyone agree that discussing about diversity is important to open
awareness and understanding on foreign culture?
 State the objective: How to develop multicultural awareness and understanding in a
classroom environment. Ways to address the history of European Immigration in the US.
In force proper etiquette when discussing foreign culture. Learn to welcome new cultures
into your personal perspective and be nonjudgmental.

Outline for Lesson Plan:

Does everyone agree that discussing about diversity is important to open awareness and
understanding on foreign culture?

 Slide 12 – Question #3. How might educators address the history of European
Immigration into the U.S. in a way that fosters multicultural awareness and
understanding?
 Slide 13 – Explore European Culture; backgrounds, languages, beliefs, & society. Allow
students to interact with different cultures, backgrounds, heritage, beliefs, & life styles.
 Slide 14 – Remind students to be sensitive and respectful of all other student’s
background, beliefs, gender identity, & social status. Enforce Strict Classroom Policies:
No Bullying, Diverse Seat Charts, and No Name Calling.
 Slide 15 – Welcome all student’s cultures, colors, languages, & gender identities.
Introduce diversity into all aspects of classroom activities.
 Slide 5- Nearly impossible to track down. Various criteria determine social status for the
European immigrants. There are many variables at play culture, any working parents,
living conditions or living location.

Closure: Hope to have installed some awareness about the importance of opening to diversity in
schools. Become understanding of all different cultures and value what diversity gives us
(identity).
