FRICK

VIBRATION
GUIDELINES
FOR
SERVICE PERSONNEL

The purpose of this document is to provide predictive maintenance providers a baseline on which to start their vibration
program. On the following pages you find photos as well as a detail sheet that outlines the different points, descriptions,
and frequency ranges that are currently being used on Frick compressors.

The photos are in sequence with the detail sheet. This sequence can be varied depending on your providers preference.

The first point you will see is the outboard of the motor, this is the non-drive end, and has three separate measurement
points on this end as shown in the photos.

The second point you will see is the inboard of the motor, this is the drive or shaft end, and like the outboard has three
separate measurement points.

Then we move to the male inboard of the compressor (coupling end, attached to the motor via the coupling) and again
take measurements on the three different plains.

Next is the female inboard which resides directly beside the male which has the drive coupling. It too will receive
measurements on three points.

Next, we move to the outboard (non-drive) end of the machine on the male side and duplicate the measurement on the
three locations as indicated in the photos.

Finally, the outboard female rotor is measured at the same planes as the other locations.

All of the compressor locations will receive an acceleration and velocity measurement, several of these same locations
will also receive a Gs Env. measurement to ensure the bearing activity in the higher ranges will be monitored.

NOTE: MACHINES IN THE RWBII, RWF, AND RDB CONFIGURATION HAVE FOUR LOBES ON THE
MALE AND SIX LOBES ON THE FEMALE ROTOR, THUS RENDERING A GAS PASSING FREQUENCY
OF FOUR TIMES ROTATIONAL SPEED. FOR EXAMPLE IF YOUR MOTOR IS RUNNING AT 60 Hz, THE
GAS PASS FREQUENCY WOULD BE AT 240 Hz.

MACHINES IN THE RXB AND RXF CLASS HAVE FIVE LOBES ON THE MALE AND SEVEN LOBES ON
THE FEMALE ROTOR. THE GAS PASSING FREQUENCY VARIES FROM MACHINE TO MACHINE
DEPENDING ON THE GEAR SET WHICH WILL DICTATE THE SPEED OF THE MALE ROTOR. YOU
WILL ALSO NOTICE AN ADDITIONAL FREQUENCY THAT WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE GEAR
PASS.

GEAR PASS FREQUENCIES AND BEARING NUMBERS ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST FROM THE
FRICK SERVICE DEPARTMENT.
