Two Daimler Dingo – Private collection (Mauritius Island)


Both are rusted and need lots of bodywork....the better one is missing front box but has a good engine....The other is in very very poor
state and had been vandalised and engine and cab had been burnt out and set on fire before the owner saved them from being
scrapped approx 7 years ago. They had been imported from South Africa in the 1950's and then used during the British Occupation by
the Special Mobile Force. Last used during the riots in Mauritius in 1969 and 1971 after Independence. They were then used as
monuments outside the SMF base untill late 90's when finally ended up outside the Police Museum. When this closed, they then
disappeared and were vandalised before being scrapped (info. from the owner)

This vehicle was part of Jacques Littlefield Collection in California. The entire Littlefield collection was donated to the Collings
Foundation, and only 80 of the 240 vehicles of the collection will be displayed in a new museum, which will be built in Massachussetts.

In 1956 it underwent an extensive rebuild at E.C. McCann at Hamworthy, Poole, Dorset. The turret is from the Mk1 Saracen rather
than the Ferret. There were over twenty vehicles modified in this way for the Malaysian conflict, however there are only three known
surviving examples: one at the Malaysian Army Museum, Kuala Lumpur, another in the North of England and this example

2000, all armour is original to the vehicle and has not been rebuilt. Current engine is not the correct model for this vehicle. The
conversion was done to a very high standard and no modification to engine mounts or hull resulted (Campbell Finlay)
