Introduction
To support higher capacity and port density, the next-generation fabric chip card, as known as Switch
Control Board (SCBE2), is introduced for current Juniper MX960 chassis. SCBE2 can support a bandwidth
of up to 340 Gbps per slot with redundant fabric support and 480 Gbps per slot without redundancy.
The detail description can be found on Juniper support document as:
http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/en_US/release-independent/junos/topics/concept/scbe2-mx960-
desc.html

Scope
The scope of this document is to define the upgrade procedure from current SCBE to SCBE2 card over
Juniper MX960 chassis.

Requirements
The SCBE2 only support on 2 following conditions:

 JunoOS software release 13.3 or later.

 Network Services Mode: Enhance-IP.

SCBE2 Upgrade Process

This section of the document details each step for SCBE2 upgrade.

Power Off MX960 Chassis
1. Engineer should observe LED light off from both routing engine.

2. Move the AC input switch on the chassis above the AC power supply or the DC circuit
breaker on each DC power supply faceplate to the off (O) position.

3. Remove Routing Engine from SCBE card. All connected cables should be removed
before RE swap out.

4. Remove SCBE from CB0

5. Insert SCBE2 into CB0.

7. Repeat the similar process from Replacing CB 0.
Replacing CB 2
8. Repeat the similar process from Replacing CB 0. No Routing Engine replacement from
this slot. Only SCBE to SCBE2 replacement required.
Power on MX960 Chassis
9. Move the AC input switch on the chassis above the AC power supply or the DC circuit
breaker on each DC power-supply faceplate to the off (—) position.
Final State
10. All routing-engine and SCBE2 cards should be active and management cables are
connected.
