Emily’s Garden Charity
Emily’s Garden is a charity set up in the legacy of Emily Jewitt. It works with ESO to raise
awareness of the environment in Oman. Particularly in the parts of Oman that are less aware.

The ESO have set up a

competition called the green Events:
schools committee. This is a - Haute Route Oman
competition where the - Oman by UTMB
competing schools will think
of ways to improve Oman’s
environment.

The ideas so far:

- Use solar power to light up the village fort to reduce
the energy usage by 30%
- A competition amongst all the families in the school
to see which family can use the least electricity by
comparing electricity bills
- Recycle all the water used in the air conditioning
- Turn the waste from goat slaughter into biogas
Nearly all species of sea turtle are classified as
Endangered. Slaughtered for their eggs, meat, skin
and shells, sea turtles suffer from poaching and
over-exploitation. They also face habitat
destruction and accidental capture in fishing gear.
Climate change has an impact on turtle nesting
sites.

Sharp plastics can rupture internal organs and bags

can cause intestinal blockages leaving turtles
unable to feed, resulting in starvation. Even if they
survive, consuming plastic can make turtles
unnaturally buoyant, which can stunt their growth
and lead to slow reproduction rates.
