SECTION 15122

METERS AND GAUGES

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including Special Conditions and Division-1 Specification
Sections, apply to work of this Section.
B. The requirements specified in this section apply to all related sections in this Division. The requirements
of all related sections, elsewhere in this division also apply to this section unless specified to the contrary.

1.2 DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A. The work includes the providing of all labour, supervision, materials, equipment, accessories, services
and tests necessary to complete and make ready for operation by Owner, all thermometers and gauges, in
accordance with Drawings and Specifications.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturers: Firms regularly engaged in manufacture of thermometers and gauges of the types and
materials, sizes and capacities required, whose products have been in satisfactory use in similar service
for not less than 5 years. Provide thermometers and gauges produced by a manufacturer listed as an
Acceptable Manufacturer in this section.
B. Standards Compliance: Make the complete installation in accordance with all state and local municipal
codes, all applicable codes and authorities having jurisdiction, and the applicable requirements and
standards outlined in section 15010
C. Warranty
- Provide two years manufacturer’s warranty
- Warranty : include the whole unit

1.4 SUBMITTALS

A. Shop drawings shall indicate sizes, types, and material with detail and attachment installations.
B. Samples, when requested.
C. Submit a schedule of all thermometers and gauges for approval. The submission should include the
type, location, ranges, scale readings, construction data and stem details of the devices.
D. Prior approval requirements:
- Manufacture name
- Figure number
- Engineering data
- Samples

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 THERMOMETERS AND PRESSURE GAUGES

A. Furnish and install pipe thermometers with separable sockets in the following locations. This applies to
all systems described in the specification.
- In and Out of each refrigerant condenser and evaporator.
- Thermometers as required under "Refrigeration Equipment."
- In and out of each converter and water to water exchangers (on water side).
- In and out of each chilled and hot water coil. A vertical bank of coil sections may have one
thermometer on inlet header and one on outlet header. For those systems with two vertical banks of
coils, then each bank shall have a thermometer on inlet and outlet headers.
- in condensate receiving or dilution tanks on labs.
- In and out of each domestic hot water generator in the primary & secondary circuit.
- In and out of each hot oil thermal generator.
- Fresh air intake ducts and mixed air plenums.
- Supply fan discharge air.
- Suction side of recirculation fans.
- at the supply and return of the hot and chilled pipe entrance to the building from thump
- as indicated on details and drawings.

B. Furnish and install pressure gauges in the following locations on water lines:
- At inlet and outlet of each circulating pump and upstream of inlet strainer. One gauge may be used
in lieu of two on suction side of pump with suitable valves and piping.
- at inlet and outlet of refrigerant water chiller.
- at inlet and outlet of refrigerant condenser.
- at inlet and outlet of each converter and water to water exchanger (on water side)
- at inlet and outlet of each coil bank. For those systems with two banks of three coils each, each
bank shall have separate gauges. Locate gauges immediately downstream of shut-off valve on
supply line and immediately upstream of shut-off valve on return line.

- in discharge of condensate pumps

- as required for compressed air lines described under automatic controls.
- at inlet and outlet of each pressure reducing valve station (one for each PRV).
- Provide connection for gauges at inlet and outlet of each water coil, chiller, condenser and heat
exchanger.
- Suction side of recirculation fans.
C. See "Automatic Controls" for description of all thermometers to be provided by automatic control
manufacturer.
D. Thermometers for water systems shall be mercury actuated as manufactured by Weksler, Moeller, or
Weiss, and furnished with micrometer adjustable pointer.
- Pipe insertion thermometers shall have separable sockets of a material suitable for each given
installation. Where such thermometers are installed on covered piping, supply extension necks of
the proper length so that the neck extends to the surface of the covering.
- They shall be of the adjustable angle type to permit easy adjustment of the thermometer case, to
facilitate reading after installation.
- All thermometers shall be manufactured by a metal (copper or aluminium) casing.
E.
- Duct type thermometers shall have a union connection with flange and a 500 mm case with a
252mm stem where mounted on uncovered ductwork and casings' and a 305mm stem where
mounted on covered ductwork, casings, etc., they shall be provided with and mounted on an
extended neck with flanges flush with the surface of the covering. The scale range of thermometers
shall be as approved by the Architect.
- Care shall be taken that there are no air leaks around a thermometers stem where it passes through
ductwork, casings, or through masonry wall.
- Thermometers shall be so located as to be easily read from the floor level and shall be of the
adjustable type to meet this requirement.
- Where conditions are such that proper reading cannot be obtained or seen with stem type
thermometer, a vapour actuated dial type thermometer with an extended bulb shall be furnished.
- Supply thermometers as indicated on the drawings and in the following locations:
o At all thermostat bulbs in ductwork, casing, piping, etc., as required for the
automatic control systems. These thermometers shall be located adjacent to the
respective thermostats so that where the thermostat is remotely located, it will be
necessary to use a remote reading type thermometer. Where the thermostats are
installed as part of the temperature control panels, it is not necessary to install other
thermometers.
F. Pressure gauges shall have 500 mm diameter dials, cast aluminium case, wide phosphor bronze
bourdon, stainless steel movement, micrometer adjustment pointer, 1/2 of 1% accuracy, ranges as
required. Shut-off cock shall be provided between each gauge and piping to permit removing gauge
while system is under pressure. All gauges on steam piping shall be provided with syphons. All
gauges on pumps shall be provided with pressure snubbers. Gauges as specified above shall be
TRERYCE 500X series, WEKSLER AA1 series, WEISS PG series, ASCHROFT Dura gauge series,

G. In addition to the above their must be provision for pressure and temperature test points in all system.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Install all thermometers and pressure gauges before piping is tested to facilitate field test procedures.
B. Adjust gauges for proper viewing angle.
