2 Course Performing of digital signal processing lab is essential for analysis and development of
1 Rationale digital signal processing which is learnt in theory.
2 Course Digital signal processing is based on processing of numeric sequences indexed on
2 Description integer variables rather than functions of a continuous independent variable. In digital
signal processing (DSP), signals are represented by sequences of finite- precision
numbers, and processing is implemented using digital computation. After discrete-time
processing, the output sequence is converted back to a continuous-time signal. As
computer speeds have increased, discrete-time processing of continuous-time signals
in real time has become commonplace in communication systems, radar and sonar,
speech and video coding and enhancement, biomedical engineering, and many more.

2 Course The objectives of the course is:

3 Objectives a. To be able to use the mathematical models used to describe and analyze digital
signals and systems using MATLAB
b. To be able to analyze the input-output relation of a system in terms of its
impulse response using MATLAB
c. To be able to describe a digital system in both time and frequency domain and
calculate its output in either domain using MATLAB.
d. To be able to design simple digital filters for given specifications using
MATLAB.

2 Learning After completing this course students will be able to

2 Course Attendance and lab performance: Mark in attendance will be based on presence of a
9 Policies student in the lab at due time (Late attendance of two lab will be treated as absence of
one day).Lab performance may be tested every day. So be updated yourself every day.
Lab report: Lab report should be self-written and individual. Lab reports must be
submitted as neat, legible, complete packages. All reports must be written such that an
outsider with a similar technical background is able to understand your report. Make
your report as simple and to the point as practical. Although handwriting reports will be
accepted, it is recommended that a word processor (e.g., MS Word) be used. Double
spacing is required so there will be room for instructor comments. Every MATLAB
code or /and figure must be in printed form.
The lab report should include the following sections:
Cover Page: Use a cover page then staple to hold the papers together. The title of the
report, the number and name of the course, your name, date, and signature must be on
this cover page.
Introduction: The introduction is intended to introduce the reader to the report. Include
a sentence or two about the objective of the project and the report, one to three
sentences about what you are going to tell (i.e., the contents of the report body,
including conclusions).
Literature Survey : Write the theoretical background behind the lab briefly.
Home work: Do the home work assigned in every lab. Copy all codes (All commands
on command window, scripts, functions, output numerical and figure. )
Lab simulation test : Two simulation tests will be held at mid and end of the semester.
Viva : Two sessions of viva voce will be held at the mid and end of the trimester . Viva
will be mostly lab based.
Quiz : Two quizzes will be taken at the mid and end of the trimester .
Project : A DSP based project will be offered at the mid of the trimester. Students will
work individually and will submit their project individually and detail report of the
project.
