Mixed Number to an Improper Fraction


To change a mixed number to an improper fraction, multiply the whole number by
the denominator of the fraction add the numerator to this product and place the sum
over the denominator.
Example:
To convert a mixed number into an
5 improper fraction,
Convert: 3 to an improper fraction
7 whole number x denominator + numerator
5 3 x 7+5 21+ 5 26 Denominator
=3 = = =
7 7 7 7

Note: Two or more fractions with the same numerators are called similar fractions,
otherwise, they are called dissimilar fractions.
