Course Guide for GEC 9 : The Life and Works of Rizal

Summer, 2021

Course Description: As mandated by the Republic Act No. 1425, this course covers the life and works of
our country’s national hero, Jose Rizal. Among topic covered are Rizal’s biography and his writings,
particularly the novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, some of his essays, and various
correspondences,

Final requirement:
Write an analysis in one of Rizal’s writings indicated below.
1. The Indolence of the Filipino
2. The Philippines a Century Hence

Basic Protocol
1. Full name should be use in the display name for recognition and attendance.
2. All microphones should always be muted unless there is a need to talk. But cameras should be open.
(Mic –off; Cam –On)
3. Decency should always be observed in the classroom (i.e. decent shirt/dress, conversation, etc.)
4. Different platforms will be used throughout the semester, if it is not possible for anyone to access those
platforms, inform the professor ahead.
5. Quizzes will be given through on-line platforms however, major exams will be given in the traditional
way (paper and pen) during school days., (if applicable)
6. Before the examination, the students will be assigned a particular batch to take the exam. It will be
limited to ten students per batch, hence strict compliance to the schedules will be implemented.
