List 9 environmental protection laws and briefly describe each.

1. Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines

Article II: Declaration of Principles and State Policies

In Section Sec.15 , from what I have understood as discussed, The Philippine government has to be in
support of Filipino citizens' right to achieve their best possible health. Likewise, the administration should
inculcate to its population a sense of identity concerning their own condition for wellness.
Here in Sec. 16, explains how the right of Filipino citizens to meet basic human necessities including the
clean air to breathe, clean drinking water, and an environment free of harmful and infectious waste
materials shall be protected by the law.

and management of water resources for their optimal functioning. Additionally, this law can protect the
owners’ right of their owned water.

The Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999 helps in having a systematic air quality control strategy and policy
directed at accomplishing and sustain good air for all Filipinos.

nation's water, such as industry, commercial establishments, agriculture, and community/household
activities.

8. RA 6969 – Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste Control Act of 1990
The intention of Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste Control Act of 1990 is to control
the entry, preparation, storage, transit, sale, marketing, consumption, and waste of all illegal chemical
compounds in the Philippines.

9. RA 9003 – Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000

This basically attempts to balance sustainable development with economic goals by acknowledging a
transition in the public's perspective regarding solid waste and establishing waste management initiatives.
B. Choose one of those 9 laws you have listed and discuss its impact on you as a student.

1. As a student nurse, we have already encountered lectures, where we learn different medical
interventions – and some of them involve toxic and hazardous materials. For instance, the
prophylactic interventions meant for cancer patients are toxic, especially to the assigned health
care worker. I remember learning that in handling these type of cases during the administration of
diagnostic and prophylactic phases, we must wear personal protective equipments – not the
simple mask and gloves, but especial types of protection to prevent ourselves being affected with
the toxins. For that reason, the law that I took interest the most among the nine laws is the RA
6969 – Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste Control Act of 1990 where again,
the intention of Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste Control Act of 1990 is to
control the entry, preparation, storage, transit, sale, marketing, consumption, and waste of all
chemical compounds in the Philippines. This type of toxins from the hospital must be thoroughly
regulated. I remember that during our lectures, we are meant to dispose the sharps, and toxins in
a specified places – but I am wondering, after we have secured these toxins on their designated
places, where will they go? And so, as a student nurse, it would be of my interest to learn more
about these regulations and truly understand what we are supposed to do in times of handling
toxic substances that could harm healthy people and the environment.
