General Instructions:

Solve the problems given below. Include in your upload file the problems, the complete
solutions of the problems (no short cut solutions), and neatly drawn figure with all
notations labelled as used in your solutions (figures not properly labelled will have points
deductions). Write your solutions in clean white papers for convenient readability and
always arrange your paging according to the problem numbering. Your upload file shall
be uploaded before the due time. All upload files uploaded after the due time will have
points deductions. 5 points will be deducted from your score if passed after 15 minutes
from the due time and 10 points every 15 minutes thereafter.
Write your full name in every page of your solution papers. No name, I will not
check/consider your solution on the page.
Show all problem solution's steps. Direct formula substitution solutions will have
points deductions.
1. An unsymmetrical trapezoidal channel of most efficient section with one side inclined
from horizontal by 35o and the other inclined from vertical by 40o is to be designed to
carry a 1.0 cubic meters per second discharge. Determine the flow stage type on the
channel if roughness coefficient is 0.030 and average longitudinal slope is 0.175. Use
Manning’s equation.

2. What uniform stage of flow exist in a circular conduit 2.0 m in diameter when the depth
of flow is 175 cm, if it is laid on a slope of 0.175 using Chezy and Kutter’s C formula
with n = 0.025?

3. A triangular channel has a vertex angle equal to 900. If the discharge uniformly flowing
in the canal is 1.50 m3/s and coefficient of roughness n = 0.030, compute the critical
slope using Manning’s equation.

4. After flowing over the spillway of a dam, 250 m3/s of water passes over a rectangular
level apron (So = 0; n = 0.025). The velocity of water at the bottom of the spillway was
measured to be 12.8 m/s. The width of the apron is 50 m and the depth of flow just
after the apron is 3 m. Conditions are such that a hydraulic jump would occur. Find
the length of the apron if the jump is to be contained within it. Determine also the
energy lost in the entire length of apron.
