Private and public universities in Bangladesh

Teaching has come a long way since the 1800s. When there were only a handful
of universities taking only some students, now there are a lot of universities and many
people can get admitted and study there. The two kinds of universities in Bangladesh
are private universities and public universities. In my opinion, three main differentiating
factors between them are competition, management, and expense.

A public university takes a specified number of students because seats are limited,
so there is a tough competition when it comes to admission and many good students fail
to enrol. In contrast, private universities don't have that specified number. An admission
test is held and students who pass it gets to study in their favoured universities. Since
the seats are limited in public universities, the competition to get into one is alot and
only people who did the best, say 150 people, only them would get into the universities.
In contrast, in private universities, they take in any students who get a pass mark in the
admission test.

The people running private universities are mainly businessmen looking for a
change in the education of the masses. For instance, North South University was
founded by Partex Group with some Honorable Board of Trustees to handle the
university. These Honourable Board of Trustees before were and in some cases still are
business moguls or industrialists or people in some other big businesses be it chairman
or managing director. It is mainly funded by them. In contrast, public universities are
owned by the state and so funded by the state.

The private universities, since they are not government entity, have huge costs
and so the cost of getting in one and studying is a lot in contrast to that of public
universities. Public universities, being a government entity, keeps costs as low as
possible and maybe even lower than that. This is one of the reasons as well for it to be a
hard task to get into one as not many can take on the fiery competition. The amount
itself could be lower than a quarter of the amount needed to study in a private
university.

To conclude, these are the distinctive features between private universities and
public universities. In this time and age, it is a mandatory activity that all students must
take part in as not many will get jobs without a university certificate and also not many
can take the pressure of being an entrepreneur themselves. Of course, having skills is
important, but having a university certificate is just as important.
