3. PROCEDURE
3.1. PCTS422 INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION DATA
(Refer to 77-40-01 par. 7.A.7 for details)
3.1.a. The EDU normally stores the following data
• Aircraft Make Model, S/N, Tail Number, and Timestamp.
• Engine Model, S/N, Left/Right Position, Timestamp, N1/T4.5 Trims.
• EEC S/N, Timestamp, S/W Version.
• EDU S/N, Timestamp, S/W Version, Trim Table S/W Version.
3.1.b. Typically the above data can be displayed on the "Selection Menu" and then
selecting "Installation Configuration Data" by using key F3.

3.2. ACCESSING AND DOWNLOADING EDU DATA WITH THE GBS

NOTE: To obtain the GBS software applicable to your fleet download it directly from the
portal if you have access or contact PWC.

3.2.a. DPHM it has four main software components:

• GBSLite Diagnostic Module (typical P/N 3070181) – normally provides
fault/event display and sorting, transient plotting, snapshot display mission
analysis, and histogram analysis.
• PW30X Transfer Module (typical P/N 30B2977) - program to communication
with EDU and download/upload EDU data.
• PW30X Trim Editor (APPLIES ONLY TO PW306A/B & PW308X ENGINES. Typical
P/N 3059718) - a program to modify operational, configuration and N1/T4.5
trim files.
• PCTS422 (typical P/N 3053379) - a real time interface program (Refer to
paragraph 1.1.a).

3.3. EDU DATA DOWNLOAD

(Refer to 77-40-01 par. 7.B for details)
3.3.a. Connect to EDU

CAUTION: MAKE SURE AIRFRAME ELECTRICAL POWER IS OFF BEFORE CONNECTING

ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS.

3.3.a.1. Connect the GBS cable (typical PWC61969) to the airframe connector.
EHM-OPS-509 - PW306X/8X Download Procedure Updated: 06-Feb-2015

3.3.a.2. Connect the other end of the GBS cable (typical PWC61969) to the
laptop.
3.3.a.3. Power up the aircraft electrical system.
3.3.a.4. Open the GBSlite by double clicking on the icon.

NOTE: Make sure COM port is available before launching this application, normally the
used is the port #1. If any palm pilot type software is located on your laptop, it
must be temporarily turned off or deactivated. This type of software normally
protects COM port # 1 and will inhibit your ability to download the EDU files.

NOTE: If your computer is not equipped with a physical COM port, it is possible to use
the USB adapter (typical PWC90191) to communicate with USB port (USB drivers
provided with USB adapter must be previously installed).

3.3.b. Open the GBSlite by double clicking on the icon.

3.3.c. Creating directories for downloads:
3.3.c.1. If they have not already been set-up, creating new folders with Windows
Explorer will help you keep track of your downloads.
3.3.c.2. In Windows Explorer open the folder in which you want to create a new
folder (example C:), in the following format C:\Eng_Data.
3.3.c.3. On the ‘‘File’’ menu, point to ‘‘New’’, then click ‘‘Folder’’.
3.3.c.4. A temporary folder will appear with the highlighted name ‘‘New Folder’’.
3.3.c.5. Type in the name you wish to apply to the folder (preferred name:
Eng_Data), press enter.
3.3.c.6. Inside C:\Eng_Data create a new folder again. On the ‘‘File’’ menu, point
to ‘‘New’’, then click ‘‘Folder’’.
3.3.c.7. Rename this temporary folder to the name of the aircraft (preferred the
reg. number. Example: N498FA).
3.3.c.8. Create two new subdirectories (folders) in the directory ‘‘N498FA’’.
Rename the first new folder to the engine S/N (example: CF0917) and the
second to the other engine S/N (example: CF0918).
3.3.c.9. When downloading, configure the GBS so the downloads will be stored in
the applicable engine directories, example: C:\Eng_Data\N498FA\CF0917\ or
C:\Eng_Data\N498FA\CF0918\.

NOTE: Check the entire fleet on the folders at any engine removal/installation in order
to avoid duplicated information or confusions during the downloading

procedures. It is recommended to keep the engines traceability in order to have

better results on maintenance actions.

3.3.d. From the GBSlite Express Panel, normally it should be selected "Download EDU"
under the Download and convert EDU data tab, this will launch the "PW30X
Transfer Module Windows Application".
3.3.e. Verify if communication is established which normally can be checked by using
the "Transfer" pull-down menu and select "Check Data Line".
3.3.f.Normally a window appears stating "Communication OK". If not, recycle the
program and check the cable connections and communication setup.

NOTE: If error screens appear, do a check of the connections. Repeat this step until the
"Communication OK" message will appear. If error screen continue to appear,
exit and enter the PW30X Transfer Module again. Contact P&WC if the problem
persists.

3.3.g. From the PW30XTm program, select the "Change Dir" button and select the
newly created folder. Once the folder is selected, click the OK button.
3.3.h. Download current EDU data:
3.3.h.1. This procedure copies the stored data from the EDU memory into the
computer. When the data is stored in the laptop computer it can be modified
as necessary and uploaded to the same EDU or a replacement EDU.
3.3.h.2. Select the download button or use the "Transfer" pull down menu.
3.3.h.3. Select "All recordings", (this will normally produce files engine in ".brc"
and normally takes approximately 20 minutes).
3.3.h.4. When the computer has read the data, normally a conversion window
will appear, select "Convert All'.
3.3.h.5. This completes the downloading of the EDU data.

3.4. EHM DATA ANALYSIS

3.4.a. The “.brc” file can be sent to the Designated Analysis Center
(DAC@WebECTM.ca) for data analysis or can be uploaded to the P&WC internet-
based WebECTM Services.
