Perception - The process by which individuals select, organize, and interpret their sensory impressions in
order to give meaning to their environment
Important because:
Perceptual errors –
Stereotype – Judging someone on the basis of your perception of the group to which that
person belongs
Prejudice – A preformed opinion, usually an unfavorable one, based on insufficient knowledge,
irrational feelings, or inaccurate stereotypes
Discrimination – Treating a person or group worse than others based on their belonging to a
particular stereotyped group

o Gregarious vs. Reserved
Agreeableness
o How readily one goes along with others
o Cooperative vs. Disagreeable
Conscientiousness
o Measure of reliability
o Organized vs. disorganized
Emotional stability
o Ability to withstand stress

o Fascination to novelty
o Creative vs. Conventional
