profiles of Philippine telecom operators Globe Telecom, Inc. and PLDT Inc. are likely to
converge, as operating cash flow continues to lag behind investment amid the coronavirus
pandemic, says Fitch Ratings. We forecast leverage - measured by funds flow from operations
(FFO) net leverage - to increase towards 2.8x for the next three years for both operators. This
study strategic execution to take centre stage amidst the pandemic challenges, as incumbent
operators strive to boost revenues. Also according to this study projections envisage PLDT's
revenue growing by a low- to mid-single-digit percentage in 2020 (2019: 3%), slightly ahead of
compared with Globe. However, the investments needed to support PLDT's expansion in mobile
revenue and broadband installations are likely to moderate EBITDA growth and delay
deleveraging. Continued restrictions imposed by the government to curb the spread of the
pandemic will delay infrastructure network rollout, including new competition from third mobile
network operator, Dito Telecommunity. Domestic telecoms capex accounts for above 40% of
total revenue, amongst the highest within Fitch's Asia-Pacific telecoms portfolio. Telecoms
capex in the Philippines has grown rapidly at a CAGR of 33% between 2017 and 2019, against a

The top two internet service providers in the Philippines experienced a surge in fixed broadband
subscriptions and revenues amid the coronavirus pandemic, data collected by S&P Global Market
Intelligence shows.
In the three months to June 30, PLDT Inc. saw a 14.30% quarter over quarter increase in total
broadband subscribers. PLDT is owned by Hong Kong-based investment management and holding firm
First Pacific Co. Ltd., and trades on the NYSE under the ticker PHI.
Competitor Globe Telecom saw the number of broadband subscribers rise 26.92% quarter over
quarter to about 2.9 million, the data from Kagan, a research offering of S&P Global Market
Intelligence, shows. "Demand for wireless connectivity escalated given that Filipinos were forced to stay
and work/learn from home due to the pandemic," Globe said “The Philippines is experiencing one of the
longest lockdowns in the world. President Rodrigo Duterte imposed movement restrictions in mid-
March as the country saw a spike in COVID-19 cases. Restrictions were eased June 1, but a strict two-
week lockdown was reimposed in the national capital, Metro Manila, on Aug. 4. Schools are also
In terms of revenue, PLDT saw a 4.4% quarter-over-quarter increase to about 7.8 billion
Philippine pesos, which it attributed to its increased installation capability after the initial lockdown
period, as well as to the rise in prepaid fixed-wireless broadband sales. Meanwhile, Globe's broadband
revenues rose 16% quarter over quarter to 6.7 billion pesos. PLDT experienced a sharp increase in
network traffic of up to 25% in the early days of the lockdown, as well as international traffic congestion
The company reduced its 2020 guidance for network investment from ₱64.6 billion to ₱48
billion. Kagan forecast steady growth of 21.7% for broadband in the Philippines in 2020 amid
prolonged lockdowns and the growing demand for home broadband due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But increased traffic is also expected to come with challenges, including greater infrastructure upkeep

provider. They have a wide array of internet services that you can choose from and is one of the
Their main offering is their wired internet service which is available in almost all areas –
urban or rural. To date, their service has gradually shifted to Fiber connection, providing much
faster download speeds to its customers. PLDT offers both postpaid and prepaid services, giving
customers the option to choose whichever may suit their needs and lifestyle. While the Globe
Telecom, one of the biggest competitors of Smart and PLDT, is known primarily for broadband
offering is its wireless connectivity services. To date, they have further expanded their catalogue
for wireless internet, one of which is their 5G offering. Their wired connection, on the other
hand, is their least popular product due to its limited availability in certain areas. Either way,
Globe’s main services are for the most part as reliable as other wired broadband’s offering, in
fact, they offer some of the fastest download speeds in the market today.
Local Literature
An increased reliance on internet services and demand for better connectivity has
prompted the Philippine government to further improve the country’s internet quality and
affordability by facilitating providers to expand infrastructure throughout the country. This has
caused internet speeds in the Philippines to rise in the last few years. Using data from Speedtest
Intelligence®, we analyzed fixed broadband and mobile network performance in the Philippines
and compared the top mobile network operators (MNOs) and fixed broadband providers (ISPs)
during Q2-Q3 2020. Compared provider performance to Speedtest Consumer Sentiment™ data
on five-star ratings and Net Promoter Score (NPS) to understand how network performance
impacts customer satisfaction. compared to five-star ratings and NPS data to providers’
users at the end of a Speedtest®. This data set provides rich insights into customer satisfaction
over time, as well as competitive benchmarking, by providing data on both Net Promoter Score
(NPS) and customers’ overall satisfaction with their network providers. Ratings aligned with
performance among top mobile operators in the country during Q2-Q3 2020. Smart was the
fastest mobile operator and had the highest rating during this period at 3.3 stars. Globe was
second with a rating of 2.5 stars. Converge ICT showed the highest rating among users in the
Philippines during Q2-Q3 2020. PLDT and Smart tied for second, followed by SKY and Globe.

This includes the method of research, the research instrument, the respondents, the sampling
The researchers will use the descriptive method in which the researchers will base the
answer to the problems from the survey questionnaire that the researchers will give to the
respondents. The purpose of this is to find the reason and truth that will come from various kinds
of reasons.
The researchers will use the descriptive methods due to its befitting to the study.

Statistical Treatment
The researchers will be using the Likert scale type of questionnaire. To be able to get the
result, a statistical analysis must be used. The researchers will be using the mean and standard
deviation in getting the result, to be able to interpret and analyze the data.
Mean is the most widely used and simplest measure of central tendency, this is also
known as average. This is a set of observed data with n observation is equal to the sum of the
