Gadjah Mada (DTGL FT-UGM) has entered its 62 year. In the 62 year, we hope DTGL FT-
UGM will become more mature and determined to face a future full of challenges and
always beneficial. DTGL FT-UGM has made a significant contribution through higher

education in earth sciences in Indonesia. This year, to fulfill its 62 year, DTGL FT-UGM
wants to hold International Conference on Geological Engineering and Geosciences
(ICGoES 2021) and a series of activities held annually to celebrate the DTGL FT-UGM
anniversary called Geoweek 2021.
ICGoES 2021 is the first international conference held by DTGL FT-UGM, which
provides a forum for international researchers, academics, practitioners, policymakers,
and related communities to discuss issues in geological engineering and geosciences.
ICGoES 2021 presents “Big City Challenges on Geohazard and Georesources” as the
main conference theme.
This year, Geoweek 2021 carries out “Adapting Geoscience in the Era of
Automation” as the theme that opens for general who are critical about the geoscience
problems that amid industrial automation in Indonesia through the event series; Earth
Science Quiz Competition or Lomba Cerdas Cermat Kebumian (LCCK 2021) and Geoweek
Video competition.
As the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, I would like to express my gratitude to

successful in realizing its vision and mission, continuing the struggle to continue to

By giving thanks to Allah SWT for all His blessings, continue to carry out and develop the
learning and teaching process at the Geological Engineering Department, Faculty of

Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (DTGL FT-UGM), which is now at its 62 year. In its journey
to carry out the tasks, DTGL FT-UGM is always consistent and continuously supports all forms of
cooperation with all related parties, including alumni, government, industry players, business
actors, and society. This form of collaboration is implemented in several events conducted by
DTGL FT-UGM, such as the first International Conference on Geological Engineering and
Geosciences (ICGoES) and Geoweek.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, ICGoES 2020 and Geoweek 2020 were unable to be held.
This year, DTGL FT-UGM will have ICGoES 2021 and Geoweek 2021 as a series of events for the 62nd
anniversary of DTGL FT-UGM. Both events will be conducted online, considering the current
condition is still not possible for both events to be performed offline.
With the theme "Big City Challenges on Geohazard and Georesources", ICGoES 2021
invites research papers to take part in the development of geoscience, where submission papers
will be reviewed, selected and published in either the IOP Conference Proceeding Series
(SCOPUS), Journal of Applied Geology (Sinta-3) or the Proceeding ICGoES 2021 which made this
event highly anticipated.
Geoweek 2021 that opens publicly, would be the best platform for the intellectuals to
expand their networks with other colleagues or professionals through the event series. Earth
Science Quiz Competition or Lomba Cerdas Cermat Kebumian (LCCK 2021) with “Pramodya
Hanasta Anagata Nusantara” as the theme, targeting senior high school students to test the
geoscience of the best Indonesian students. The 2021 Geoweek Video competition is the first
video contest added to the event series. This contest aims to showcasing the beauty of
geotourism in Indonesia through creativity by targeting the general public.
Lastly, the academic community of DTGL FT-UGM would like to thank all those who
participated and supported and made the ICGoES 2021 and Geoweek 2021 a success, which is a

Department of
Geological Engineering
At first, the lecture location was located at Sekip Unit IV, then in 1963 moved
to the Engineering Geology Section at the Jetis campus, AM Sangaji Street no. 47,
Yogyakarta. In 1985, Department of Geological Engineering moved to Flora
Street, the complex of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, UGM Bulaksumur
campus, then since 1992 until now, it has occupied the complex of the UGM
Faculty of Engineering Department at Grafika Street no. 2, Bulaksumur.
Department of Geological Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas
Gadjah Mada established a Geological Field Station in the Bayat area, Klaten in
1984 to support field activities. Prof. R. Soeroso Notohadiprawiro as the name of
the field station to commemorate his services as the founder of Department of
Geological Engineering Universitas Gadjah Mada.
Lecture activities at the UGM Geological Engineering Department do not
only take place inside the classroom, but can also take place outside the
classroom. This can support the quality of Geological Engineering Department
which has been trusted by various groups. The belief in the quality of the
Department of Geological Engineering is proven by obtaining accreditation A on
an ongoing basis from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education
(BAN-PT).
In subsequent developments, the UGM Geological Engineering
Postgraduate Program was established in 1997 and since 2003, the Postgraduate
program and Doctoral degree program of Geological Engineering UGM is

designated as the host of higher education for Geological Engineering in
Southeast Asia by the AUN/SEED -Net Program (ASEAN University
Network/Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network).

Vision & Mission

Vision : To be a center of excellence in applied geology, with international
quality in the fields of education, research and community service, which is
imbued with Pancasila.
Mission : To provide international quality education and research as well as
community service that is inspired by Pancasila in the field of applied geology by
emphasizing the harmony between geological processes and human life.

Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Geologi Fakultas Teknik -
U n i ve r s i t a s G a d j a h M a d a ( H M TG F T- U G M ) wa s
inaugurated on May 20, 1962 and is the largest geological
engineering student association in ASEAN. "Gesa Gesu
Sesu Sasa!" became an encouraging motto and a yellow
jacket (Jaket Kuning) as a family identity for HMTG FT-
UGM.
Keluarga Pecinta Alam MAGMAGAMA (Kapala
MAGMAGAMA) is a semi-autonomous organization under
HMTG FT UGM which is engaged in nature lovers. Kapala
MAGMAGAMA was founded on February 10, 1981 and has 5
divisions. Namely Mountaineering, Climbing, Caving,
Relation and Development, and Logistic.
The American Association of Petroleum Geologist
Universitas Gadjah Mada Student Chapter (AAPG UGM -
SC) was founded in 2000 and has received one
"Outstanding Award", three "Honorable Mention", and
Student Chapter
five consecutive wins the "L-Austin Week Grant Award" .
The Society of Petroleum Engineers Universitas Gadjah
Mada Student Chapter (SPE UGM SC) is a non-profit
organization structurally under the SPE Indonesia and SPE
Java Section which was established in November 2008. In
2018 it managed to get the "Outstanding Award".

Society of Economic Geologist Universitas Gadjah Mada
Student Chapter (SEG UGM SC) is a student chapter that
focuses on aspects of economic geology. This organization
was officially founded on September 29, 2013 by the Society
of Economic Geoscientists, Colorado, USA.
Seksi Mahasiswa Ikatan Ahli Geologi Indonesia Universitas
Gadjah Mada (SM IAGI UGM) is a student section at the UGM
Geological Engineering Department that focuses on 3 main
aspects, namely extraction, mitigation, and conservation.
This organization was officially established on December
22, 2013.
Desa Binaan of HMTG FT UGM is a follow-up to the Geoweek
Society Project 2017 event. The integration between the
H M T G c o m m u n i t y, t h e G e o l o g i c a l E n g i n e e r i n g
Department, Kageogama, and the Klaten Regional
Government made the Desa Binaaan the first organization
at UGM to engage in the geotourism sector with the
concept of village development in Bayat District. The
organization, which was founded on May 2, 2017, focuses on
three aspects of geotourism, namely Geo-Conservation,
Geo-Tourism, and Geo-Products.

 About The Conference
International Conference on Geological Engineering and Geosciences
(ICGoES 2021) is the first international conferences on Department of Geological
Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada. ICGoES 2021
presents 'Big City Challenges on Geohazard and Georesources' as the main
conference theme. This conference provides a forum for international
researchers, academics, practitioners, policy makers and related communities
to discuss, to share and exchange their latest research and experience progress
associated with the field of geological engineering and geosciences. In addition,
this conference also aimed to address a common issue of georesources
sustainability, renewable energy sources and climate change-related geohazard
and disasters in the development of urban areas. Certainly, those issues require
an integrated approach and collaborative efforts in particular to build and
enhance resilient cities in the respective countries.
ICGoES 2021 provides opportunities to all participants in expanding their
network, as an important step to achieve coordinated approach and
interdisciplinary collaboration in the regional and international level in the field
of geological engineering and geosciences.
ICGoES 2021 invites prospective participants to contribute and submit
their full papers. Selected papers will be submitted into proceedings that
indexed by SCOPUS.

Preview Geoweek
Geoweek is the largest series of annual geological occasion covering
energy resources, mineral resources, and environmental resources in
Indonesia organized by the Geological Engineering Student Association, FT-
UGM (HMTG FT-UGM) in collaboration with the Geological Engineering
Department, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada. This event
involves government, industry professionals, academics, and the general
public to improve the quality of human resources. The Geoweek series of
events have been held for 5 consecutive years, and since 2015 with the latest
and hottest themes and topics to open the views of industry professionals,
government, academics, and the public by presenting the latest
developments in geology, geoscience, and the geological industry.
Our mission is to become a forum for academics, industry professionals,
government, the energy and mineral resources industry, as well as people in
Indonesia, to interact through cooperation among policymakers and provide
the media with opportunities to promote the event. These things are
expected to create new innovations, provide solutions for industry,

government and academia, and breakthroughs for other geological issues.
Geoweek offers a synergistic partnership between government,
industry and society, which can support increased development by increasing
the competitiveness of Indonesia's human resources. This is in line with the
Socio-entrepreneurship promoted by Universitas Gadjah Mada. This year's
Geoweek carries the theme "Adapting Geoscience in the Era of
Automation" which aims to become a forum for the adjustment of
technology. The massive development of technology coupled with the
presence of Artificial Intelligence which accelerates this, requires
geoscientists to be able to adapt the geoscience field so that it can always be
relevant in the midst of the automation revolution that is happening.

Earth Science Quiz Competition or Lomba Cerdas Cermat Kebumian
2021 (LCCK 2021) is the first and largest geological science competition
among high schools in Indonesia held by the Geological Engineering
Department, Universitas Gadjah Mada in collaboration with the Geological
Engineering Student Association (HMTG FT-UGM) and included in the
Geoweek 2021 event series.
The first LCCK was held in 2011, LCCK activities have been carried out 9

times and in 2021 its the 10 or one decade of LCCK activities. By carrying out
the latest themes and enthusiasm that are relevant to increasing students
enthusiasm with earth science, LCCK 2021 carries the theme "Pramodya
Hanasta Anagata Nusantara" which means "Indonesian Youth as a
pioneer for a more advanced Indonesia". The aim of this event is that LCCK
2021 can be a facilitator to introduce information about the importance of
youth for the advancement of earth science for the future of Indonesia.
This year's LCCK activities will be held in four days, start from March 20
- 23, 2021 and will have four main series of events, namely written test,
virtual fieldwork, career sharing, and fast-paced competition which
aims to test and provide new insight about earth science to students.

Geoweek Video Competition 2021 is a short video competition as one of a
series of events in Geoweek 2021 held by the Department of Geological
Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Universitas Gadjah Mada, in collaboration
with the Geological Engineering Student Association, FT-UGM (HMTG FT-UGM).
The 2021 Geoweek Video Competition is intended to promote Indonesia's
tourism potential, especially those with geological elements.
During this pandemic, Geoweek, as an annual event from the Department
of Geological Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, is still trying to protect its
existence by giving rise to a breakthrough in the form of a national level video
competition. With the theme "Unleash the True Beauty of Geotourism", it’s
expected that participants will introduce the natural beauty and potential of
geological tourism in their area, which is still not widely known to the public. The
video is presented uniquely and excitingly to increase the interest of the general
public about Indonesia's geological potential and make it a new geotourism.
The series of Geoweek Video Competition 2021 activities will be held online
and started on January 3, 2021, to March 22, 2021. Participants were given time
to produce videos for approximately one and a half months and then carried out
an elimination stage until 25% of participants with the best videos were obtained
to advance to the semifinal. Furthermore, the selected participants will present
their video work to convey the meaning and further explanation, especially
regarding the potential of geological tourism, which is the main object in the
video.

Previous Events Geoweek 2019 was held on September 2 - 8, 2019 with the
theme "Connecting Geoscience for The Future". The
Geoweek 2019 series of events were aimed at bringing out
earth perspective sciences that are needed in the future.
Besides, it also puts forward science related to
geoscience, recognizes past cultures f rom natural
heritage and also with the development of the human

Geoweek 2020 has been planned with theme “Applied

Geology for Sustainable Development”. It was planned with 4
main events, which are International Geomapping
Competition, Earth Science Quiz Competition or Lomba
Cerdas Cermat Kebumian (LCCK), International Conference
on Geological Engineering and Geosciences (ICGoes), and
Geoweek Career Days. Due to Covid-19 Pandemic Geoweek
2020 has been cancelled.

Geoweek 2018 was held on September 1 - 8, 2018 with the
theme "Earth Science For Humanity". Geoweek 2018
aimed to become a facilitator in the implementation of
earth sciences in order to create a synergistic relationship
between nature and humans. Geoweek 2018 has
s u c c e e d e d i n c rea t i n g s y n e rg i e s b e t we e n t h e
government, companies and communities by increasing
the competitiveness of Indonesia's human resources.
