Practice Activity
Here are the questions:
What reading strategies did we use in answering the questions and analyzing the information presented
in the poster?
Skimming - is used when one reads the text quickly to get a general idea of meaning.
It is done by running your eyes over the text, and noting the most important information.
When to use:
1. Read rapidly.
4. Do not try to remember everything, but just be content to go after your special purpose.
5. Be sure you understand the purpose of the reading or the questions that are to be answered.
6. Stop all hurry and read with great care the moment you find the right spot.
Scanning- is a reading strategy that one uses when he or she reads a text quickly to find specific
information, like names or numbers.
It is done by running your eyes over the text while looking for specific information.
2. Look only for the information. Do not read every word in every sentence.
3. Let your eyes flow down the page following a set of patterns. Read around a word that catches your
eye.
4. Stop at the sentence which you think has the answer. Read the sentence to be certain that you have
the correct answer
Close Reading- is a reading strategy that is used to find specific facts and details which leads to the
interpretation or significance of the meaning of the text.
Usage:
Close Reading can be used to bring out the deeper meaning of a text. Its fruit or interpretation is usually
meant to be shared, whether orally or in writing.
Intensive Reading- is used in shorter text to get important details. It involves close reading for specific
information. It is done when one wants to gain a deeper understanding of a text.
1. Use guide questions for you to better understand the text you are reading.
3. Think only of the things related to the text because other thoughts might bother you which may result
to lack of focus.
4. If you do not have a good retention ability, taking important points from the text is a big help.
5. If you still do not understand the text, read it again. Remember, it’s intensive!

Assessment:
Reading Tasks:
“See how they manage their life, Lizzy. They are just pushing buttons and touching
screens.”, says Lazzy.
“Look at the little girl. She knows how to use her laptop as she participates in her online distance
learning,” comments Lizzy.
“Why are you all rushing here?”, ask the best of friends to the lizards.
“All the lights are turned off except here.”, reply the lizards.
“Yes, Father. My teacher in Science said that when we are saving electricity, we are also saving the
environment because the suppliers emit pollution to produce electricity”, says the little girl. Then her
older brothers and sister clap their hands for her.
“Oh, no! We should learn how to look for other sources of food”, says Lazzy.
“We don’t have to go, Lazzy. I am happy to see this family spending their time together as they help save
the environment. Remember, we will always be a part of the environment where they live. If they are
saving the environment, they are also saving us and our next generations”, says Lizzy.
From then on, all the lizards in that home join Lizzy and Lazzy together as they share their moments with
the happy and wise family below them.
