Technical Information
Trixene ASF is a low viscosity, monofunctional isocyanate mainly used in single component moisture curing
applications as a rapid water or activity scavenger.

Typical Properties
Appearance colourless to light straw coloured liquid

NCO Content 20.0 - 22.4%

Colour Hazen 80 max

Viscosity @ 25ºC 10mPa.s (approx)

Hydrolysable chloride 1.3% max

Flash point (A.C.C.) > 100°C

Freezing point 5ºC

Boiling point 270ºC (approx)

Specific Gravity @ 20°C 1.2 - 1.3

Solubility
Good in most common solvents.

Solvents containing active hydrogen groups, e.g. alcohols, amines etc., should not be used because of
possible reaction with the terminal isocyanate groups of the prepolymers.

The recommendations made above are general in nature. Although every effort has been made to supply reliable data, it is for informational purposes only. We cannot guarantee
the results as stated to be obtained since we have no control over the end use of the material. Each user must make their own tests to determine the suitability of the material for
their own use. Nothing contained herein is intended as a recommendation to use our products to infringe any patent.
Uses
Suggested applications for TRIXENE ASF include its use as a chain stopper in polymerisation and as a
scavenger for undesirable reactive groups in urethane raw materials.

In coal/tar urethane coating, it may be used to neutralise the amine and hydroxyl groups and to remove
water in the tar which can cause premature gelation and foaming of tar/urethane prepolymer blends.

The addition of 1.2% of TRIXENE ASF to coal tar containing 0.1% of active amine and hydroxyl groups will
lead to their complete neutralisation.

Similarly, the addition of 2.4% of TRIXENE ASF will remove up to 0.1% of water from tar, zinc dust, paints,
solvents etc.

The use of TRIXENE ASF at higher levels than that necessary to neutralise moisture, amine or hydroxy
activity in coatings formulations which are either moisture curing single or two-pack combinations involving
isocyanate activity, may lead to significant reductions in cure rates and ultimate physical properties.
