1. CRE ATING SIMPLE BLOCKS
CAD blocks are named groups of objects that act
as a single 2D or 3D object.
CAD BLOCKS
In AutoCAD, symbols and details that you
insert into drawings are called blocks. A
block is a collection of objects that are
combined into a single named object.

HOME TAB > BLOCK PANEL 4

BLOCKS PALETTE
Used to access blocks quickly from a
ribbon gallery or from the Blocks palette.

When you click Insert from the Home tab,

Block panel, you can click and place
blocks from the displayed ribbon gallery.
The gallery displays all block definitions
in the current drawing. Click and place
these blocks.

BLOCKS PALETTE
The CURRENT DRAWING tab displays previews or a list of block
definitions available in the current drawing.

The RECENT TAB displays previews or a list of block definitions recently

inserted or created in the current and previous sessions. These blocks
can come from various drawings.

The FAVORITES tab displays previews or a list of favorite block

definitions that were copied from the other tabs of the Blocks palette.

The L IBRARIES tab displays previews or a list of block definitions from a

single, specified drawing or a folder. Inserting a drawing file as a block
also imports all of its block definitions into the current drawing. Click
Browse Block L ibraries at the top of the palette to browse to a different
drawing file or folder.

2. CRE ATING & USING GROUPS
Groups provide an easy way to combine drawing
objects that you need to manipulate as a unit.
GROUPS

By default, selecting any member of a group

selects all the objects in that group, and you
can move, copy, rotate, and modify groups
just as you can modify individual objects.

HOME TAB > GROUPS PANEL 8

GROUP MANAGER
ADD - Adds objects to a group.

REMOVE - Removes objects from a group. If you remove all the group's objects, the
group remains defined. You can remove the group definition from the drawing by
using the Explode option.

EXPL ODE - Deletes a group definition by exploding the group into its component
objects.

RENAME - Assigns a new name to an existing group.

SEL ECTABL E -Specifies whether a group is selectable. When a group is

selectable, selecting one object in the group selects the whole group. Objects on
locked or frozen layers are not selected.

CREATE - Creates a group. Group names can be up to 31 characters long and can
include letters, numbers, and special characters dollar sign ($), hyphen (-), and
underscore (_) but not spaces. The name is converted to uppercase characters.

3. PAPE R SPACE OR LAYOUT
AutoCAD's paper space mode is a bit like having
a page in a scrapbook onto which you can paste
different views of your AutoCAD drawing.
