Vocabulary Words:
 Toll - the number of deaths, casualties, or injuries arising from particular circumstances,
such as a natural disaster, conflict, or accident.
 Epidemiological - relating to the branch of medicine which deals with the incidence,
distribution, and control of diseases.
 Scheme - a large-scale systematic plan or arrangement for attaining a particular object or
putting a particular idea into effect.

Summary:
On Friday, The World Health Organization informed people that Christmas festivities could lead to
sorrow if people fail to maintain precautionary measures against the virus. WHO chief Tedros
Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on a public statement that the Covid-19 virus is still rampant and the
death toll is still increasing so he encouraged individuals to reflect on their plans this festive season.
Nonetheless, according to Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO's technical lead on Covid-19 said that some
countries are experiencing an increase in death toll and that the world remains in danger.
In the mean time Michael Ryan, WHO’s emergency director, said the circumstance universally is still
exceptionally epidemiologically unstable. He said that nearly one billion dosages of three antibody
candidates had been secured as portion of the COVAX facility and that the procurement and division
would be equally regardless of wealth.
Meanwhile, WHO senior advisor Bruce Aylward said “there was light at the end of a long tunnel”
and that the virus can now be eradicated.
Reaction:
I'm very upset and disappointed because of so much limitations that this pandemic has brought us.
We can't celebrate Christmas like we normally do like going to Christmas parties, visiting your
relatives in provinces, going to malls and etc. But at the same time, I'm still very thankful because
we can still celebrate Christmas season inside the comforts of our home, safe from the dangers of
covid-19 virus. Even though we cant travel to visit our relatives, we can still wish them a Merry
Christmas and celebrate with them thanks to social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram,
twitter and more. And also, since “Simbang Gabi” is now different compared to last time, where
many people can join the mass, and now only a limited number of people can join. So online
“Simbang Gabi” would do because your chances of getting the virus from the crowd inside the
church is low. But for me going to church physically is better. All in all I'm looking forward to 2021
because next year there will be mass vaccinations in different countries which I hope will be a great
success so that everything will go back to normal and no more people dying.
