JOURNAL AND LEARNING CONTRACT ANALYSIS

I learned a lot regarding expertness, setting goals, and to try and do some work-related

things. I can now develop a sense of commitment to the social service worker profession and

code of ethics. And also to work to get a better understanding within the communities. I can now

be an advocate to the oppressed communities. This can conjointly facilitate within the future as

I’m higher ready for what's going to be expected in a very work setting.

                                

WEEK 2 JOURNAL GROWTH

The issue was that communication with peers was a big deal because I used to think that I

was not facially beautiful. This limited my interaction with my peers. I was involved because my

peers always made fun of me, and this affected my self-esteem and my communication even up

to my adulthood. All this while, I never managed the situation until after Taking this semester’s

courses and being into so many groups. These have allowed me to improve my communication

skills and become relative with my conversation with people, hence improving my

communication style and identifying my limitations that hindered me from communicating

effectively with my peers. The skill gained is effective communication and self-care. Self-care is

important social service worker survival ability, active self-care can facilitate you: establish and

manage the final challenges that each one hard-working professional face, like the potential for

stress and burnout or social difficulties. Social Service workers facilitate the poor by providing

advocacy, like acting as mediators or directly intervening with social services organizations or

governmental agencies. As an example, a social service worker could advocate on behalf of a

client-facing eviction with local housing organizations or facilitate the client to find community
resources, like church and non-secular organizations, which may facilitate pay the rent on a

short-lived basis Act as intermediaries between clients and other systems to protect

 Before now I always thought I had a problem with my effective communication prowess

even though I used to be the quite type. Although I can express myself when necessary. I

thought I was not that facially beautiful compare to my peer; this brings tears, sadness to

my soul each time I remembered. This thought affected my self-esteem and communication

with my peers even to my present adulthood.  Taking this semester courses   and being into

so many groups has allowed me to improve my communication skills and become relative

with my conversation with people, hence improving my communication style and

identifying my limitations that hindered me from communicating effectively with my peer.

I  learned that being more open with my own self, and being expressive will allow me to

become a more effective communicator with my peers, Also learning about the intervention

and the helping hand the food bank, retirement homes, LTC Homes in my Agency

assignment,  I decided that I would be an  advocate  to the oppress and the needy. This act

in the Roles of SSW is directly representing a course of action on behalf on one or more

individuals, groups, or communities, with the goal of securing or retaining social justice,

also the function as spokespersons for people within the functionary maze of governmental

structures and intervenes with social work delivery systems or policy-makers on behalf of

the less privileged. I had the chance to advocate for a widow , it happened that her

husband’s people  take care of herself and her kids, when I had about her,  I made sure
that she  and her kids never lack anything food,  I would take my children’s cloths and

shoes they have never worn to her kids, I told my husband and friends about her, and they

supported  me with some cash which I used in starting up a mini provision store for her,

and today she and her kids are living a comfortable life.

WEEK 5 JOURNAL

           The issue was not being able to access Blackboard Learn; I was denied access to

blackboard due to the difficulty in getting dollars to pay for my tuition fee, this has happened

because my country is facing recession. The challenge was that I was not able to attend classes,

and this made me have a lot of accumulated works. I got involved because the situation in my

country is messed up. These affected me because the network in my country hindered my

communication with my classmates, and I felt left out. My professor Karyn Hand was very

supportive during this situation and this made me strong and courageous. Also with the help of

one Mr. Ikenna who railed around to source for Dollars and I was able to pay my tuition fee. I

developed effective communication skills as I kept communicating with my classmate via

Whatsapp and discord. As a social service worker, effective communication is very important,

.social service workers should communicate with the client to realize information, convey

important information, and create necessary selections. Without effective communication skills,

a social service worker might not be ready to acquire or convey that info, thereby inflicting

prejudices effects on the client the social service worker role was advocate, Social Service

I was denied access to blackboard learning due to difficulty in exchanging naira for dollar

so I can complete my tuition fee due to the economic recession in Nigeria. This was so

frustrating and hectic for me because I missed out on a lot of class activities for two weeks

which was a very long time. After all, now I have a lot of accumulated assignments and projects

which I need to submit. It’s overwhelming for me and this made me emotionally down.

I developed communication skills with peers as I kept communicating with my classmates via

Whatsapp so that I can be updated with class activities in which the network in my country

hindered my communication with peers as a result of bad network signals. I felt left out at a

point due to my non-participation in-class activities due to difficulty in completing my tuition

payment, but on the other hand, this made me stronger and courageous as I now see solutions

in every problem in life. With God all things are possible and what God cannot do does not exist.

Keeping in touch with my classmates helped me to be updated with class activities which

helped to calm my emotions and not to feel rejected.

I had my tuition fee in naira but I was faced with the challenge of exchanging naira for a dollar

due to the economic situation in my country Nigeria which led to the scarcity of dollars, a very

frustrating experience.

I plan to open a domiciliary account so I can fund it with dollars to avoid a delay in payment of

my tuition fee because I don’t wish to pass through this trauma anymore.

I was surprised and confused when I was blocked from accessing blackboard learning because

I initially paid 5000dollar which was above 70% of my tuition fee for the semester and I also
notified the school via mail that I had difficulty making payment. This made me very sad, hurting

my feelings the most.

I discovered that I am privileged and opportune to study in Canada because there are lots of

people that do not have this privilege and opportunity to study outside Nigeria because they

cannot afford the tuition fee.

Advocate, I can advocate for clients passing through my experience by writing to the institution

for a grace period to allow the individual to make payment  to avoid blocking,

WEEK 7 JOURNAL

The issue is food insecurity, I never had any idea that food insecurity can lead to chronic health

issues, in Nigeria we face a lot of food insecurity, I am a citizen of this country, although I was

privileged to have food every day, there are some people whom could not even afford a square

meal. I intend of teaching the public the importance of being a farmer and how farming can help

to reduce food insecurity in the country. The skill I acquired was researching because I

researched different websites about the impact of food insecurity, as a social service worker,

high-quality research in social service work is very important for several reasons. Research is

also utilized to gauge the effectiveness of the observation within which social service workers

have interaction and also the programs they implement. Development of the latest information,

policies and programs typically results from research efforts. A social worker helps a client

become capable of coping with situations or transitional stress. A social worker conveys hope,
reducing resistance and ambivalence, recognizing and managing feelings, identifying and

supporting personal strengths and social assets, breaking down problems into parts that can be

solved more readily, and maintaining a focus on goals and the means of achieving them (Barker,

LEARNING CONTRACT ANALYSIS

JOB KNOWLEDGE GOAL,

 In my job knowledge goal I was able to achieve my aim in helping the oppressed community

get justice, I learned a lot in this field, and I must say it was a very beautiful experience this is

with the help of my supervisor, peer, and coworker. In other to help my client get justice, I made

sure I maintain effective communication with them. Also, I work as a team with my co-worker to

achieve my aim by playing an active role in securing rights for all people, despite race, gender,

faith, or sexual orientation. This is the population I wished to work with. As a Social service

worker, I understand that discrimination will dramatically impact an individual or a family’s ability

to thrive which ending discrimination is a crucial step in guaranteeing all folks have access to

required services and opportunities. I need to focus on promoting the dignity and worth of

people; this is as a social service worker human beings ought to be respected regardless of

their economic status.

INTERPERSONAL GOAL
 As a social service worker, I have worked towards my interpersonal goal, I made sure I

cooperated with my supervisor, peer, and co-worker to actively present in staff meetings,

presentations, and workshops. During staff meetings, I always give feedback about my

encounter with my clients; this enables me to know what action to take while embarking on my

next assignment the next action. And I was very confident in handling disputes. As a social

service worker attending meetings, conferences and presentations gave me a wider range of

information and I also meet other professionals. I have discovered that I was now eager to learn

new approaches on how to become a better social service worker, and also I always try to get to

understand better the need of individuals, and families, Because I have empathy for the

individual, I was able to be sensitive to the emotions of people and gain their trust.

SELF AWARENESS GOAL,

 Being an extrovert, I made sure I express myself and air my opinion when needed concerning

one another. Eliminate misunderstandings through effective communication and learning

additional concerning to one another. By developing a typical goal, it provides a platform for my

client, coworker to move and lower communication barriers. However, these enhance their

understanding of every other’s perspective and explanation behind their choices. Thus, the skill

of self-awareness allows me to know how past experiences area unit touching their approach to

understanding variations. As a social service worker Self-awareness helped me notice being

triggered by a coworker, peer, rather than accumulating tension, I was able to use self-

awareness to note what's inflicting bound feelings and responses in me, this helps me to deal

with surprising events and challenges in my work because it is a method of caring for myself

and managing my emotions. Strength and weaknesses like and dislikes because as a social

service worker self-awareness is a vital part to organize oneself to encounter the clients’ matter,

their attitudes, thoughts, Then talk about what I learned about myself interns observations,

limitations, strength attitude, character, understanding sensitive and the way my past
experiences affect me. Finally correlate how self-awareness will facilitate my professional

development as a social service worker.

PRACTICE SKILLS GOALS  

   in terms of practice skills, I would say I have improved a lot, this is because in my country the

method in which we write is not the same as in Canada, hence I can now write, connect words, I

know this because I have written journals, Emails, letters for my study permit, participating in a

lot of presentations, interview skills, making a good presentation in my group dynamics class I

now understand the code of ethics that guides me as a social service worker., and there some

certain limit to which I can relate to individual, families, and groups. As a Social service worker, I

would like to focus on helping people to face life's challenges, improve their well-being, and

make sure they're treated fairly. Social service workers usually see people once they face some

form of crisis, like family violence, condition, or psychological state problems. I would also like to

relieve people's suffering, fight for social justice, and improves lives and communities. And help

get people the help they need, such as emergency accommodations, financial supports, and

health and legal services. And also advocate for the poor.

INTEGRATION GOAL

   I was able to demonstrate and give justices to the oppressed and maintain effective

communication. Securing rights for all people, despite race, gender, faith or sexual orientation’s

also address the needs of individual, families. I also got other professional opinions in handling

some situations. But as a social service worker, my job is not limited to only what I know, there

are many situations in the field that I need the assistance of other professionals to handle,

professionals such as nurses, educators doctors, pharmacists. If I encounter a client who needs

medical treatment .it is inevitably important to seek the advice of or refer the client to an expert.

A social service worker multidisciplinary approach and measure in tacking challenges better
