Explanatio Students will participate in whole group discussion to apply the skills learned
n during the engagement and exploration phases. Students should have already
completed reading assignments for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
Students will identify elements of a drama as they relate to the play. Students
will be led to identify motifs present throughout the text in preparation for their
group assignment. As a group, students will watch the following depiction of
Act 2 Scene 2 from Romeo and Juliet. While referring to the text, students will
compare and contrast the text and the video depiction, making a note of the
use of setting and motif in particular. Notes will be recorded on a whiteboard or
smartboard as students respond with their ideas.

Explanatio Student understanding will be assessed through their participation in the whole

Elaboration Students will work in small groups to analyze a scene from the play.
Each group will be sent a copy of the text for their scene, along with a video
clip of a live performance depicting the scene.
